Darvocets: do they really suck that bad?

^about a year ago i cut my hand WIDE OPEN between my index and middle finger RIGHT ON THE VIEN, blood everywhere, got to the doctor's office at like 3am and they had to put 8 stitches in me...they wrote me darvocet and i didnt think i would need them at all cuz i figured it was just a cut and i could touch it out....well the next day when i woke up my hand was sore as shit and still leaking blood, etc. called the doctor and told him that the darvs werent working. he told me to give it a few days and then come back in....which i did when i got there he said "ill write you another script for the darvocet and ib profen 800" i kinda chuckled and just said it would be alright i got some oxycontin at the house....he just looked at me kinda puzzled and said "ok, i would advise you to just take my prescription" i took it and he had this real eat shit and die look on his face.
 
Depends on the person

I used to take 12 perc a day,got switched to 60mg OC twice a day with 4 to 8mg dilaudid for breakthrough and darvocet still fucks me up. Must be in the body chemistry. And fuck tramadol. It isn't even a narcotic, just "mimics" one.

I'm curious as to what dose of propoxyphene is considered dangerous or toxic. Have percs and darvies but not that many percs. 300-400mg of proposyphene dangerous?

in my experience, 300-400mg porpoxyphene can be dangerous, start smaller.

i took that amount once and it sucked. first i got dizzy, sweaty and nauseous. then it progressed to what i guess is some sort of hypotension; the dizzyness got worse, and when i got up to get a glass of water, i essentially passed out (possibly seized, but im not sure. my friend said i was kinda shaking before i dropped). once i was on the floor (in the middle of a crowded coffee shop), i realized what happened and i got a massive adrenaline rush and was able to get up and make a hasty exit.

overall, propoxyphene is definitely a strong depressant, it's just not particularly enjoyable. it produces the CNS depression of opioids without any of the euphoria. i would never take it again, but i did find it kinda enjoyable the first few times i took it.
 
Ask Lester Bangs about it (you will need a medium).

In Europe, it's being rapidly withdrawn because it makes the MDMA buzz stronger thus idiots are taking 10 per night, ruining their livers and dying.

Alone it just sucks (for me)

Trust me, from someone on 3 years of chronic pain meds I have read all inserts and my uncle's med books. Tramadol aka Ultracet mimics narcotics but is not one. I may be new to your board but I have been on shitloads of drugs and have investigated every one. Look it up carefully. It can work on some people but is not what you think. Ask your pharmacist if need be. And why do no posts ever mention my 60mg red oxycontins? Name brand and never mentioned.
 
Does drinking a lot of water help with liver and kidney procession whilst taking things like these? I tend to drink several bottles of water especially when taking meds.
 
My 2 cents... yes they suck. But, you probably enjoyed them because you added some Demerol. Although Demoral sucks as well... at least to me it sure does.

I've never liked Darvacet. They make me feel nasty.

But hey... I'm sure there are some folks out there who enjoy a few of them here and there, i don't know. And I'm sure if one is in w/d they would come in handy. That's what i used them for once. Didn't enjoy them, but they kept me 'Almost' well.

Tramadol and codeine are better than Darvs...

Hell... weed kills pain better than darvs... darvocets just plain suck.

A narcotic, medically speaking, is an opioid painkiller. Opioid includes the alkaloids (the naturally occuring morphine and codeine, etc...), the semi-synthetics (oxycodone, heroin, etc...) and the fully synthetics (fentanyl, methadone, etc...). In the US however, cocaine and some other drugs I think are referred to legally as narcotics as well.

Tramadol is an opioid, and it's metabolite M1 binds to the opiate receptor mu. Therefore, it's a narcotic. Because of it's effects on serotonin and norepinephrine, it obviously isn't as sedating as the other opioids and provides different effects.
 
Don't listen to us, more than half of us in Other Drugs IV's heroin on a consistent basis.

For someone who doesn't use hard opiates and hasn't done many opiates in general, they will be wonderful. If you've tried hard drug use like heroin or IVing oxycodone, they will have absolutely no effect on you.

It's not so much tolerance, its just once you've done hard heroin or whatever, you can 'handle' it like some people can handle their alcohol, while others get piss drunk in 1 shot. It's not that people who get crazy in 1 shot are any more drunk, they just aren't used to alcohol at all.

Like for example, I have gotten drunk maybe 10 times or less in my life, and touch it maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Yet it takes over 12 shots to get me drunk - i can just handle it. However the first time I tried it it only took 1 shot to get me floored.
 
The thing is, they SUCK on their own. They aren't worth taking for FREE on their own. Their aweful and if you attempt to get high on them, you'll destroy your liver before you get high; even with NO tolerance WHAT-SO-EVER! HOWEVER, I've heard that they potentiate other opiates so much that people end up ODing or coming VERY close to ODing without even thinking about it. I've heard of people nodding and throwing their guts up from small doses of their normal ope of choice and a couple darvocets. So... Who knows.
