Darvocet stronger for Indians?

Hey guys, this is my first thread here, don't be too hard on me :)

I did a search and didn't really find what I'm looking for, so here goes:

Lately I've been taking around 90-120mg of hyrdocodone a day for the past couple of weeks (legitamately). My script ran out, and I absolutely HATE withdrawals. Luckily, a friend of mine called me the same day and said he had leftover 100mg darvocets. I've taken these before, and I wasn't too ecstatic since last time they did ward off withdrawals, but weren't much fun unless i took 400mg. Well anyway, I was really tired last night and I took about 300mg, and I waited...half an hour passes, and I wait...an hour passes, and I wait. Thinking they just weren't that strong, I go lie down and listen to music and try to fall asleep. That's when it hit me.

WOW! I felt as if I had just taken two lorcets and a percocet. These things felt goooood. I've been doing some research, and found that propoxyphene is extremely popular in India for abuse, and that some people think that it just simply hits Indians harder. I know that a lot of them IV over there, but I'm pretty sure not all of them do. And from what I've heard/read, IV is very pleasurable with these. My question is: Does anybody have any links to studies or experiences with the relation between my race (indian, obviously) and propoxyphene potency? Thanks guys :D

And yes, I know, it is easy to OD on this drug, and respiratory depression can happen. And that I need to watch my APAP levels.

90-120 mg of hydro a day? I don't understand why doctors do that. Why not put you on something stronger so your not constantly popping pills all day. Not to mention the apap. I have a friend that went through the same thing. She finally got on 40mg OC's

I'm guessing what happened is that you were just so happy to be relieved from your withdrawal symptoms that it made you feel high. Darvocet can do an alright job staving away withdrawal, but I wouldn't say that any dose of darvocet comes close to feeling as good as hydrocodone. Although everyone reacts differently. I suppose your theory is remotely possible.

dont iv darvos, it isnt even possible. and race shouldnt have any effect on potency
i dont know about propoxyphene, but race can definitely have an impact on how a drug reacts for a person. for example, 6% of white people are CYP2D6 deficient and thus hypersensitive to DXM etc, but only 2% for african americans and 1% for asians are. and interestingly 20% of ethiopians, 7% of spaniards and 1.5% of scandenavians have higher than normal CYP2D6 activity and thus rapidly metabolize these drugs.

im guessing the drugs dont know what race/gender/whatever when you take em. if they do they are smarter than i thought.

and then im gonna blame THEM instead of myself when i fuck up.

I didn't mean that the drug just "knew" 8)

I meant because of the different biological makeupof different races. . .

Yes, this is what I meant, differences like these.

That's exactly what I would normally think, since any kind of opiate is relieving when I'm withdrawing. Thing is, I hadn't actually begun withdrawals, not even chills (which are usually the worst for me). And yes, I assume some people do react differently. For example, a lot of people write off tramadol as a useless substance, but everytime I take it I LOVEEE it heh. 150mg will make me extremely euphoric. Not sure why some people don't like this drug. I guess those that are seizure-prone have a reason :\

There are some drugs that appear to have a higher efficacy in certain genders; nubain is more effective in women and pentazocine (aka talwin) is particularly effective in women with RED hair. So it is not entirely unlikely, however i do not believe this is the case with Indians and propoxyphene, and it is most likely a simple matter of availability...

^Why did they pick to use the 'bluelight crew' tag when the 'I used to be a mod tag' won in the poll? :(

shit u should have seen the cocktail i was on, 2 200mg celebrex, 4 soma a day, 3 nuerontin, 3 10mg valium, 1 30mg temazepam, 2 oxy 40s, and 10 7.5/325 percocets a day. plus a shit load of benadryl and the occansional k-pin.

i dont think that darvocet would have such a big difference in indians that it would lead to abuse

prolly has something to do with avaliability

off topic: A lot of the people who voted for the, "I used to be a mod" title weren't mods or ex mods, so "they" randomly decided to go with BL crew.. For the record, I voted for "former BL crew." I thought that was the most appropriate. BL crew is better than "I used to be a mod" at least..

Anyway, I definitely agree that race and gender are potential factors when it comes to how a drug will affect you. However with darvocet and all opioids for that matter, race and/or gender don't seem to make a significant difference when it comes to sensitivity.

Wow this thread is hilarious, Darvocet fucking blows, id rather take Advil than that shit.

and don't even think about IV'ng that worthless excuse for a pain med, it would take atleast 50 of them IV'd to get the effect of 15mg's of Roxicodone to get that effect.

This thread reminded me of that old story you hear about how Native Americans are supposedly way more affected by alcohol. Came across this study, interestingly:

The firewater myth and response to alcohol in Mission Indians.

So Native Americans could be less sensitive to alcohol in fact.

Kind of off topic, but it's interesting and it also shows that drugs can affect different ethnicities differently.

I'm pretty sure a lot of asians (in contrast to other races) are predisposed to facial flushing and alcohol poisening. Something about not having the proper enzymes to metabolize the alcohol or something, and it makes them all flush in the face and hot. I've heard that from a few of my treatment counselors, and one of my HCP's. And I have a few asian friends that simply do not drink at all for that very reason.

I have no idea how that could relate to darvocets or people from India, but I suppose there could be some sort of correlation. Otherwise this post is pretty much pointless, and I apologize for babbling.

maybe someone who can get the search results they wants[since i never can], or somebody already knows. im a pretty heavy drinker, and lately ive been getting really flushed... red blotches and shit whenever i drink, no mattter how much. at first i thought it was an allergic reaction to sulphites, but no matter what i drink, be it beer, wine, or liquor, it happens almost every time.
i appologize for being way off topic

^ reverse tolerance?

I know YOU know what it is, but: "Heavy alcohol consumption over a period of years can lead to "reverse tolerance". A liver can be damaged by alcohol abuse leading to a buildup of fat and scar tissue. The reduced ability of such a liver to metabolize or break down alcohol means that small amounts can lead to a high BAC and resulting intoxication."
