This album has been everywhere with me. I've listened to it on almost every substance I've done. First time I got stoned it was playing, first time I dropped acid, first time I took opiates, some of the first times I tweaked were all spent listening to this album. I don't seem to be the only one either.

No matter who you are you've got to appreciate the sheer beauty of this album. :D

This is very likely my favorite album of all time.

Favorite bands/albums come and go but this album has remained a favorite of mine since the first time I listened to it.

Beautiful album, and I hope the kids nowadays don't listen to it on shuffle... lol because it's way better if you have the whole experience, from first to last song.

You probably all know that Pink Floyd has much more to offer, from the lucid insanity of Piper at the Gates of Dawn to the ambitious Atom Heart Mother, not forgetting Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall.

Yes. More than any other album I can think of, it's one that becomes bigger than the sum of it's parts when listened to as an album.

One of the greatest, if not the greatest album ever, imo. Got the making of dvd too which i recommend if you haven't seen it before. This record was way ahead of its time.

my dad had a copy of it on original vinyl. put it on and wow it sounded like a whole new album..

Best album of all time hands down. It has everything, but what makes it the best is the cosmic significance of it.. talking about real world matters and not some trivial shite that goes with soooooo much other music. The two albums that sold more globally (of all time), Thriller and Back in Black.. great albums also, but they do not have the same cosmic significance. That for me is why it is the best album of all time. The final track 'Eclipse' is what really adds the extra dimension to the album IMO.. there is esoteric significance in there definitely, getting to the finality of it all, how the Sun (inner Sun/Heart) is eclipsed by the Moon (our Mind/Ego).. and how pathetically pointless our lives our lived in this fashion.. the inherent glory that 99% of people simply never realize within themselves :( That's my take anyway..

I have listened to the album hundreds of times and I will never ever get tired of it. It truely is magic. The only thing I possibly like better is 'Echoes' from Meddle :D That track is cosmic too.

Brain Damage/Eclipse Video. I think the imagery goes really well. Enjoy!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJek3KkqReM

My mom introduced The Dark Side of the Moon to me when I was just a very young child at the ripe age of 6 or 7
We would ride in her thunderchicken as we would call it and she'd sing and play the steering wheel drums lol

Definitely one of the greatest albums of all time though
I mean how can an album be so perfect

Also I have to listen to the whole thing if I listen to it at all
I feel like it's the only proper way instead of just listening to one or two random tracks

My favorite song would prolly have to be Any Color You Like, and On The Run reminds me of like one of the earliest examples of electronic music

For The Great Gig in the Sky did you know they supposedly picked a woman right off the street on the way to the studio to sing that bit, if that's true, how fucking epic

No, they brought it someone based on the producer, Alan Parson's, recommendation. Having worked with her before he thought she would do a great job and she did. I wouldn't be a good f&t mod if I didn't mention this documentary. It features interviews with the band as well as other contributors. Really good behind the scenes commentary. Highly recommended. It's available through Netflix and I'm sure other . . . less reputable means.

Also DSOTM + Wizard of Oz, anyone?

pink floyd was my favorite band of all time for a large portion of my life and are still top 5 without a question. no other musician(s) will ever come within miles of pink floyd in terms of psychedelic rock IMO. acid + pink floyd is SO RIGHT it's unreal.

"You don't need drugs to enjoy Pink Floyd. You need Pink Floyd to enjoy drugs."

It really is the best record ever made. Pink Floyd's other offerings (agreed, everything before The Final Cut) are all, well, groundbreaking. But DSOTM is, in my opinion, beyond groundbreaking. They really did everything right. Not only musically, but technically-speaking. I use it to test stereo gear and headphones. It's the best record to have sex to, its the best record to take drugs to, its the best record to drive really fast to, its the best record to play while watching The Wizard of Oz on mute....it really is the best album to listen to while doing anything and everything. Timeless.

Nothing like a good amount of LSD, a pair of headphones, and a copy of Dark Side of the Moon on vinyl.

I like DSOM a lot, but I always felt that albums like Animals, Wish You Were Here and Meddle are just plain better. DSOM seems to suffer from being hyped way too much.

While I really enjoy the more psychedelic side of PF (Atom Heart Mother, Echoes, Shine On You Crazy Diamond), they have quite a few 'more straightforward' songs that are really unappreciated:

Summer '68
Fearless
San Tropez
Jugband Blues
Bike

How different does it sound on vinyl?

Don't forget the last words in the album are: "There is no dark side in the moon, really. Matter of fact it's all dark.", which in a way denies the very name of the album and has so many interpretations...
