DARK circles under eyes from opiates / nasal congestion

So the past 3 years i have been sniffing oxies but am now on methadone for the last 3 months, im sure the methadone might be a bit of the cause to the dark circles but I am stable now and figured they would dissipate over time.. I had also worked graveyard shifts for 2 years but quit a few weeks ago and I am now in school, I figured working nights caused it too but it almost seems like its getting worse..

I've read that nasal congestion is one of the common causes of dark circles, do you think sniffin 100's of mgs of oxies up my nose everyday for 3 years is a HUGE cause of it? Is there anything you can do to REALLY clear up your nasal airways to get all the crap out of there? I see other methadone patients and alot of them do not have dark circles nearly as bad as me. If anyone has suggestions about the nasal congestion that would be great! :)

Get a nettle pot and wash all of that gunk out of your sinuses. This may be the fact that Opiates and opiods destroy your sleeping pattern. Also, you had a bad pattern to begin with working at night.

I always use Saline spray for my nose to clean it out. I snort Oxy and Opanas. It cut down those problems by 75%. My husband is having issues with his sinuses from snorting. The Saline has helped him as well. It's cheap and you can get it at any drug store. Also a hot rag over your nose can help clear it out. Hope this helped.

Either it was all the snorting you were doing, or the Histamine release that opiates put out.

thanks for the suggestions guys/girl. I'm thinking im going to try the neti pot tomorrow does anyone know if that cleans up in the mucous membrane where all the powder and crap goes? If anyone has done it before is there chunks of filler/crap that comes out? I'm thinking of putting a big bowl underneath me and seeing what comes out.

Yes it does. It will feel very weird like running liquid plumber through your sinuses. I suggest you use distilled or filtered water and not tap water... You could introduce more stray bacteria directly to your membranes if you do. Depends on where you live and how good your opinion on the tap water is.

I also agree with the saline spray. Whenever all the powder would get in my nose from Cocaine or pills with high snorting bioavailability, saline would clean me out and not to mention made my nose moist so none was wasted.

So I bought a NeilMed SinusFlo Ready Rinse, it does the same thing as a neti pot. But after I did it there really wasnt too much that came out I expected ALOT more. I have been on methadone for 3 months so I haven't put anything up my nose in 3 months too. Is it best to use it AFTER a long binge or in my case after i got on methadone?? It never really helped with dark circles either but it has only been a couple days..

It might not be due to nasal congestion. Sometimes it's just due to your skintone/genes, or not getting enough sleep, or being anaemic, or being allergic to something. If you have any reason to suspect it might be anaemia (if you're female and have heavy periods, if you're vegetarian, if you feel tired/light headed a lot of the time) then you could get a blood test.. very occasionally it can be due to liver disease too, so you could have a liver screen at the same time maybe. Dilated blood vessels under the eye can cause it as well, so cold compresses on your face can sometimes help temporarily.

You could try an antihistamine incase it's allergies, and stocking up on sleep too. If all else fails, a decent concealer can cover them up..

Good luck!
