Daniel Pinchbeck and the New Psychedelic Elite

"Psychedelic megalomaniac"... I like the sound of that. I've always thought that megalomina is a common side effect of acid on certain people. I've seen guys become the most outrageous megalomaniacs on acid, and it can be quite disturbing. Church : I don't think they'd need coke or anything, the weird effects of the drugs on retarded shit-minds can cause enough ego in itself, trust me.

I think ego inflation is just another place in the mind, and can happen whereever on whatever drug (people like being attention whores). I've had it happen occasionally on psychedelics before, and plenty more times on other drugs. I know some people who take mushrooms and consistently believe they know all the secrets of the past and future and can read your mind, and are pretty vocal about telling you so.

They say psychedelics can make you regress, and that's fairly true; in this instance envision the screaming smiling kid in the supermarket, beaming as his mother chases him.

The 2012(Dec 21) date is a debated concept stemming from study of the Mayan calendar system. The other proposed date which seems to make more sense to me is Oct 28, 2011.

and who says he gave himself the title, " New Psychedelic Elite"... More likely it was the Rolling Stone writer. Moreover, such magazines like to hype everything... I say more power to him if he is able to bring this sub-culture into the main stream.

Is this guy a megalomaniac, or is does he truly have a guru-complex? I absolutely HATE with a passion hearing phrases like "the psychedelic elite." It don't think it's humanly possible to be any more paradoxical than that. Are these guys snorting coke or doing some other ego-strengthening drugs in between their trips, or what?

:X
Amen... exactly. Unfortunately there are too many psychedelic users who seem to have a (subtle but definite) superiority complex, IMO. This guy's probably just more open about it than most. Spiritual materialism at its most nauseating.

Did anybody else see this guy on the Colbert Report last week? (or maybe it was the week before)

He didn't seem to be AS MUCH of an assbag as he is made out to be, but he his pretty serious about thinking he is a prophet and everyone should read his book because the world is going to end....

I don't know how anyone in their right mind could believe any of that bullshit, but of course, I'm an atheist, and my beliefs are in reason and intelligence...

it's tricky (730)

Nobody is perfect. It is not your place to F-ing judge others.

The return of the Mayan serpent has been prophesied for a LONG time.

The Norse tell of a serpent AND a wolf (Fenrir) at Ragnarok.

Mental Note: Take Ibogaine next.

Decaroxylation of tryptophan --> tryptamine + MeOH + formaldehyde + sodium cyanoborohydride --> pure, *semisynthetic* DMT sans Peru.

The Lion King comes out on top in the End.

An egomaniacal crazyfuck, yes, but hey, great article nonetheless. It's always nice to see psychedelics getting a positive look in more popular media.

yea on the colbert report colbert was trying to do his usual thing but this fuck was being way too stiff and more of that prophetic complex came out. lame. goes on a comedy show and killed the comedy. not to mention he tried to slip in another plug for his older book and colbert called him out on it. i was actually surprised colbert didnt start on one of his theological rampages. hommie needs to fix that Madonna gap he has going their too.

40+ year old spoiled rich kid wasting his time trying to find out the answer instead of enjoying his life and just finding out when the time is due. concidering he doesnt have an original thought to save his life, he does get alot of media attention for some reason.

i heard he has fans that worship him 8(
i can imagine what his pick up lines are for all these supposidly hot chicks he always gets.
Lets see who can come up with the best Pinchbeck pickup line. this should be fun.

i don't think "mainstream" is where it belongs. bringing the attention to such things as DMT is dangerous. it is much easier to utilize it if the world isn't familiar with it.

i mean, i can grow a poppy plant or have some phycotria viridis lying around, and the in laws not freak out the way they could with a marijuana plant.

fuck mainstream. trendiness sucks. :p

And who are you or any of us to say if it right to bring such things into the mainstream or not? Dangerous? Acid can only also be dangerous in the hands of some. Moreover, we all know the influence of psychedelics in the 60s had on the expansion of consciousness of a lot of individuals during that era... I think we are overdue for some kind of mass awakening

i agree we are overdue and ready, and it can happen. but those who seek it don't need to find it on the front page news. and in my experience, those who do are the ones who can't handle it.

we have all been around someone who shouldn't be on an intense psychedelic. i would prefer that number stays low. anyway, not important, we are going ot, i see what you are saying but don't agree, we can agree to disagree.

Agreed with the Colbert Report observations.

The comparison between Tim Leary and Dan Pinchbeck is very off: Leary at least knew how to mellow the fuck out.

saw this guy on colbert. not much to say, he's a douche.

May I ask why you think this guy is a "douche" after you saw him on Colbert? Can you be more specific? I think he answered the interviwer's questions to best of his abilities despite Colbert's trademark sardonic humour.

a message, from me...

... to me (and anyone else who can help listen):

WAKE UP! WAKE UP! WAKE UP!

You cannot deny the logic, and neither can your heart

That's my take, anyways... it's just hard to keep yer nose to the psychedelic grindstone sometimes...

What is it about psychedelics that seems to turn some people into the most self-absorbed tossers?

Rich-boy has mental problems as a kid, rich-boy gets some exotic substances, rich-boy then inflicts his quasi-philosophical nihilistic nonsense on the rest of us while getting laid.

Creeeepy.
