leprechaun: if you wanna just program your own sounds, no you don't need to do that at all. wrote a really crap programming guide for it years ago when someone asked me how to use it here if you need to know how to do things. some of its abit wrong cos i didn't have a manual at the time, and was thus unsure myself what things did what.

Leprechaun:
The Poly 800 uses tape to backup its internal patchs and sequence if you want the orignal sounds you can get them from the following site in wav format:

Are you using the Typhoon 2000 OS with you TX16w??? The Yamaha Os sux butt compaired to Typhoon. I've only got 1.5mb's in mine but I get around the memory problem by resampling and antialising the sample to reduce the rate and bits but keep the fidelity. The filters are good, esp the matrix filter system it rocks. My only problem is that it's a little noisy. Compaired to my other equip the noise floor is heaps higher... Already tried earthing it. I guess I'm just picky...

eltawerk: not sure what versions there are, but yes, i've got some version of typhoon. never tried the original yamaha version as when i got my tx16w it already had typhoon with it, no point trying it after hearing so much bad press about it.
haven't done alot of sampling (got a CD of tx samples when i bought it, or dl from web), but always done it at 12bit 50 khz, never down sampled, so 3 mb doesn't last long at all. you can boost it to 6, but i'm no good at rewiring stuff so i didn't bother. but seeing as my only other noise making device is my drumstation, even 6 wouldn't be enough. thats why i wanna get a new sampler, least 32mb, and a hard drive (disks drive me insane

).
it is abit noisy isn't it? haven't cared too much about it so far, as i've only ever mastered to tape straight from the mixer, but it would be an issue if (when?) i try to get stuff to DAT or something. another reason i want a new sampler...

ANYONE HAVE/KNOW OF ANYONE WANTING TO SELL A NOVATION DRUMSTATION OR SIMILAR...i'm getting an rm1x at the moment...mid jan i'll be in a position to buy a drum machine...i really like the drumstation.....
AND
I'm also placing an order very soon for circuit boards for those do it yourself tb303 clones....i've heard one..they sound damn good....all up the whole thing will cost around uhmm 400-500 bux to build, including rack/desk case, intelligent midi-cv/gate/slide converter, lots of knobs, inbuilt distortion etc etc etc. Anyone interested reply/email/ring

cheers

serotone: is it going to be a straight up 303 clone? or will it be more than that?

umm..i have the url somewhere..i'll throw it in at the end of this message...basically it is just the sound section of the 303, with lots more...basically it has ur 6 303 knobs, those being tune, cutoff, resonance, env mod, decay, and accent, it also has a sub bass generator, one octave lower i think, filter frequency modulation, vca decay (in addition to the normal 303's filter decay) and accent decay...plus on board distortion/overdrive...and with the optional midi-cv-gate-slide converter, depending on ur velocity u can trigger off the accent, or if u overlap two notes they slide....ummm...hehe the url is this : http://www.techrepairs.freeserve.co.uk/tb3030.htm

If someone builds it for me i might be in on it as well, altho im thinkin of just gettin a freebass clone and a decent distortion/overdrive pedal. But now that i think of it ill probly save up for a nova or sum shit cus the 303 sounds gettin a bit dated/overused. But it still sounds FUKING MAD.
Heh heh, fuk that im not touching a soldering iron after what happened last time

To me the 303 is sounding really, really dated, to the point where I am looking for something different. One thing I like about the RM1X and the 505 is the types of own sounds that can be produced, in an all in one unit.
I love the NOVA for the range of sounds it can produce, with 3 oscillators it can really pull of some insane sounds from what I have heard from it thus far. Recently I learned to love the old Juno/Jupiter sounds, and have not heard them lately, except in sugars new album, which ROCKS!!!!!!
IMHO.

So I guess its all to their own. Anyone else think the 303 is getting overused?

Not really. It just means that there will be a distinct void between people who use a 303 and people who can make good music with a 303.
And i'm starting to have 2nd thoughts about rushing in to get a nova..i mite get me an a4000 or a5000 first.

i think the 303 has been overused for a very long time. there are still people doing interesting new stuff with it (few and far between though), but i got tired of it - too many tunes with distorted 303 + 909. thats why i sold mine off, i couldn't see a use for it in my setup. and thats why i asked if it was just going to be a 303 clone style thing, cos i'd be interested if it was more than that.

A Nova is a full fledged Synth unit, without the Keyboard. It does have some 303 sounds, but thats not what its for.
Serotone, why are you having second thoughts?

Well, whats a nova? a synth right? At present, i have no sampler. When i get a sampler, u can sample with it (derrr hehehe). I can incorporate ANYThing into my music, so it isn't a priority to get a synth b4 the sampler coz i can always toy around with a soft synth such as vaz or reaktor and sample it. I still want a nova, however binary finary hate them and the supernova. They reckon the access virus's r0ck. I wouldn't have believed it, except for the fact the have three of them.

I'd have to agree about getting a sampler rather than another synth, I'm seriously hurting from my lack of sampling ability (computer doesn't count, gimme some hardware!)
Tho I wouldn't give up the Jupiter 8 for anything, nor do I regret buying it instead of anything else

I think Binary Finary shoulda donated one of their access viruses to me

Tars, tars, tarz... You need a effects unit first so then you have reverb... Dry sounds fall hard on soft ears (except of a bassline or a kick)
HEHEHEHEE!!! Me going mad with new(really) old toy....;-P MC-500.... HEHEEHE
I'll be back when I've finished breaking it in...

Hey.. this is pretty elementary i guess but i'm still having troubles..
I got a copy of rebirth zipped off a friend and it's working fine.. but when i download mods they aren't working. I know you need a mod folder.. where do you put it? or how can i get the mods to work?
I've got version 2.0 and no original disk of course

Well, its like this, when u were little, ure daddy....
Yeah it sux, Aparently its cus Yamaha America developed the new chip and Yamaha Japan didnt know jak about it and we get our stuff from Yamaha Japan.
So what we gotta do is nag Yamaha and all our supliers untill we get what we want, and if we dont, we will have to ram our cars through their front windows and compensate for the losses
