Shut up Eltawerk! What kind of alias is that anyway?!?!
*cough* Yeah, so anyway, don't think a huge chain would work all that well, specially if we've got a lot of equipment to hook up...
Surely we could borrow a midi thru box from someone?

I have a midi splitter that has FOUR outs and ONE in.
How much is a midi thru-box. I could buy one.

hehehehe fuck u komplex . Pictures like that make me want to drive my car thru the manny's window.
mmm i'm up for that maybe...

that song thing
and don't BUY A midi thru box
i can make one
for about 1/10 the price int he shops

I didn't really notice either, 'cos I couldn't take my eyes off all the gear...
Front row seat too, lovely!

It was really packed earlier... specially when Robert Anthony put on some classic track, can't remember what it was called, but every square metre of the room was filled by people ready to rock... awesome stuff!

So how do you intend to construct a MidiThru box. I know how to build splitters, they are quite easy, but doesn't a thru box have IN midi selectors? That would require circuitry to control?

Okay..what i mean by a midi thru box.
One in.
many outs, used for products like roland FUCKING mc505 that doesn't have a FUCKING midi thru. It is quiet simple, just an optocoupler, buffer few resistors and a few plugs. and power of course....
Also, i'm buliding a 'midi knob box', basically its microcontrolled, with umm i think 8 knobs on the front that u can assign controlller numbers to, thrut the lcd/keypad...and then use it to send midi data....perfect for controlling that 'other' part u've alwayts wanted to tweak on ur groovebox, or playing wiff rebirth without a mouse

greetings fellow gearaholics...sorry for butting in

i need some advice. i've been writing music on my PC for about 7 years or so now, and like many decided to buy gear. i ended up spending about $10,000 in total over a few years, but lost touch with all the newest gear, and sold off alot of stuff over the last year to fund a vinyl addiction. now i'm left with a few bits and bobs, and want to get back into hardware (PC just isn't up to scratch to do anything real serious with it)....i think

basically i want to get a sampler. got a yamaha TX16W, but 3 megs of ram just doesn't cut it, seeing as it would be the main work horse in my setup. i have no idea whats going on in the world of samplers these days anymore, so was just curious what would be a good choice around the $2-3000 mark (new or secondhand)...
having said that, would it be better to spend that money on upgrading the PC and keep it all in there? i've no real desire to perform live at this point in time, so getting a more powerful computer and doing everything on there would almost be the same as using a hardware sampler.
whats left of my setup:
drumstation
tx16w
alesis midiverb 2
zoom 1201
samson 15 channel mixer
casio sk1

any advice would be appreciated, cheers

well..if I was to spend 3 grand on a sampler...
either an akai s2000 (with the extra add on boards) or an s3000 (with the efx board..)
second hand a freiend got an s3000 for 1700..it has 8 outputs..the efx board allows u to save efx as part of the patch...so u can have many efx...
then there are the yamahas....a3000 or a4000 are good..i mite be getting a 4000.....umm then if ur into the groovebox kinda thing there is a 'loop' sampler...called the su700..its had 'rave' reviews...dunno much about it though....
or be a retard and get an sp202 :P

Wouldnt really recomend the su-700 or loop samplers for that matter.
Not much originality, u need a way to create ure own sounds like with a synth or sumthin if u know what i mean, a sampler is essential tho in my oppinion, like a proper sampler, where u make patches and shit.

Its my duty to please you're booty

wouldn't even consider those loops samplers really, they looked pathetic 2 years ago, doubt much has changed. having worked with the yamaha tx16w sampler abit, i know i need something abit more complex than those.
creating own sounds? meh

type of music i wanna do, don't need alot of melodic elements. if i needed that sort of thing, wouldn't have sold so much gear this last year. i had, at one time, the following as well as the stuff i listed earlier:
novation bass station (keyboard ver)
juno 106
tb-303
tr-505
tr-707
poly 800 (shit? how can you say that eltawerk
smile.gif
)
sh3a (nice)
system 100 (so sad the day i got rid of this
frown.gif
)
i got rid of it all cos i don't have the room for it, i don't need 6 monotimbral synths, and i wanted to make music that doesn't feature lots of melody. oh yeah, and i had credit card bills to pay
wink.gif

was thinking of a second hand akai, like the 2000/3000, might be the way, or a new yamaha a3000 (they still being sold?). decisions decisions...

smile.gif
didn't take up any walls, and had no modules - twas a sys-100, not the 100m modular thing. hell, if i had the 100m...no way i'd sell it...
the 100 was like the precursor to the 100m. its abit like the korg ms-20 - part modular, part prewired. it had 5 parts - two synth modules (one with a keyboard), sequencer, mixer and speakers. the synth module with the keyboard could be used as a synth on its own, the other synth module needed cv/gate inputs. had things like a ring modulator, high pass filter, filter input, could sync the oscillators on the two synths. had a few downsides in my eyes - no external input to control lfo speed being the worst. the sequencer was pretty damn cool, analogue seqs are just the best
smile.gif

from what i can gather, more modules were going to be added to it, but roland decided to shelve it and develop the 100m instead. a pity, but even so, the 100 is a wicked little thing to get - its a semi-modular for less than something like a jupiter-8 (iirc, i got it for $1200 for the 2 synths and sequencer). i spent hours just sitting there tweaking stuff, you just get lost in it...
really annoyed that i had to get rid of it...bloody credit cards.

Ah yeah, i know the drill. Its all cool sittin around for hours twiddling and tweaking stuff but its shit cus u never get anythin finished!!!

I have a poly-800 aswell, but it has no patches or data on it. I have been told I need to download all of information ontu the machine using midi. Anyone have any idea if this is what I need to do? Or where I can get that information/data/patches etc...
