haha those at glow/rdc party in april..who heard my set..would remember..hhahahahaha...how i broke out into playing 'the circus song' on my keyboard in the middle of my set. (i am easily led and immature im sorry: P)
That set was up on www.rave.net.au ...not sure if it still is..however i think my set from FACT is still up there....alas that set had its bad points if i remember correctly....the fire alarm was going off for a good 15 minutes, fucking i was sorta playing in a seperate room than where the dancefloor was...so my eq'ing was fucked (i had a shit speaker for a foldback) the list goes on hehehe...
fuck i hope i didn't play jingle bells in this set...eek i muist control myself.

OH..on that note....U's had better all come to atmosphere on the 17th..if your into ur live thing that is...word isn't final on the lineup, but expect to see at least 7 live acts playing thru out....including dee dee, 8 bit, and MORE :P
Plus.. get me tapes/cd's of ur shit...if this nite goes well i expect we'll be able to plan the next one heaps bigger, meaning more acts.......so i'm desperate to weed out all the bedroom talent out there :P I love it i love it hehehe nah seriously...umm get me a cd/tape..with a few words about yourselves....perhaps bring it into atmosphere from the 17th?
 
I have been playing around with the 505 and found the Manuals to be pretty great. I have heard that many people out there find the manuals really pissy! Well, I think that do a good job in introducing the 505.
In terms of sound, I played with the RM1x and the sounds are just as appropriate as the 505's. I think if your up to it Serotone, setup the 505 as the slave and get the Rm1x pupping out the patterns. I'm sure you'll get some insane grooves.
I have always thought that if your good at it, you could use a MC-303 and still kick some but playing live.

Well, while it's not good for a tradesman to blame his tools, boxes like the 303, 505 rm1x etc will limit a creative writer at some point or another....through some stupid design limitation....such as the 505's inability to transmit midi clock via it's soft-thru function...if it wasn't possible to do...why not just whack a fucking midi thru port on the back? It doesn't cost THAT much money......in regards to the sounds..yeah they are appropriate but they are not inspirational....tell me...what did u have more fun doing, playing with the preset, pre-sampled sounds from the rm1x/505 or tweaking hte fuck out of the nova, creating your own sounds, and phrases as u go?
Musicians shouldn't hvae to manipulate musical phrases to sound good with the particular patch ( as i've had to do with the somewhat 'fixed' sampled waveforms on the 505 ), u should be able to tweak the patch to fit anything.....so many times i've come up with candidates for killer lines, but they've been put on the back burner because they sounded shit with the sounds i have on hand...
Basically it comes down to the fact that electronic music isn't just about structure and arrangement, it's also about 'engineering' your own sounds and perfecting your production as to sound good on any system...anywhere... thats what i believe anyway...and at the moment i'm just experimenting with my music, coz i'm not happy with it, it isn't what i want it to be...

Here's the plan.... I got a roland TD 7 electronic drum kit already, so what I'm going to get (this is long term, I don't have all cash just yet but soon!) but I think, after a trip to Sound devices (ah, sydney siders, who's with me, that shop kicks arse!) I'm gunna get the rm1x and a JP8000 synth!! Combine those with the TD7 and my Imac and Cubase and I reckon all have a pretty sick set up! Any arguements??
Does anyone have the link to the official nova site?? I can't seemed to find it!

A good live set.
505 & Rm1x ( Or one of either) / JP350 / Nova
Anyone elses personal opinion on what would be a good live set?
I want to be using a Nova & 505 since I already have the 505, and having player around with a Nova. If both of them were synced and connected to a good mixer, then I think you would be set!
Any more ideas?

well here are a few pics and sum info,
first on the menu, we have two pics of my current rig,
note that it is a bit limited
Consists of, 1- The Rm1X = main control thing, which is controlled by 2- the keyboard or 3- the computer depending how i hook it up for the session (note to myself, get midi expander box)
rm1x is connected to 4- electribe rythm sampler, and then goes thru to 3- the computer where i run gigasampler as oppsed to a hardware sampler due to lack of funds.
Also due to lack of funds, the audio goes out thru 5- the shitbrik gemini mixer that is fuked deeply and anally.

On the note of midi expanders...if ur short midi thru's it aint that hard to fabricate some urself..all u need is midi plugs, few opto couplers, bit o this bit o that..sure beats paying 70 bux for ONE midi thru box..thats what allans wants...bwahaha

on the note of behringer mixers:
i had to cart mine down to fucking rowville last week (gotta get it back tommorow) because i like to do flicky shit with the faders, (so u wanna be a dj?) heheheh umm...this is a big no no with behringers..maybe even all band mixers....these faders aren't designed to be slammed up like a mutha fucker..coz i killed one.. and also my eq's go 'crrk crrk' coz i tweak em like cutoff knobs...my cutoff knob on my 505 sometimes likes to pick 'random vaules of cutoff' if u like...depending on what position its at, how hot the room is, what angle my box is on, how long my facial growth is etc etc...
my point is...these toys look good, sound err err and break easy.
watch out
they WILLL BREAK ONE DAY after warranty expires...i guarantee u that (1 year over the counter guarantee that is :P )
Heheh...what eurorack u want komplex? 2004? thats like mine! its good! but it sux..only one prefader aux send...the other one is post fader, which sux if ur using a vocoder like me...that means ur VOICE has to come the vocoder as well

Heh heh, yeah, the eurorack, havent got my catalogue on me, its the one for i think around 800 bux or sum shit, the biggest one out of the small ones. But it would be sick gettin one of those with the built in efx.
As for breakin down i gotta agree with ya on that. The shit they make these days cant handle what us freaks put it through

Basically if i touch my mixer it will get pissed of with me and make that crsh crah noise like u said. I cant really use the faders unless i go real slow.
But i can still manage it, cus i dont use the mixer for mukin about much anyway.
Um, that rack, desk i drew during my exam is sumthin i want to build. The top will be a thik wire/rod mesh sort of thing so it cuts down on weight etc, and i wanna make it as light as possible, maybe put lockable wheels on it.
In the end i wanna be able to wheel it out of my studio (cough bedroom) right into a van or sumthin where i can easily transport it.

Finally got everything more or less sorted out, can use the dodgy little MC-303 as a sequencer for the rest of my gear, tho the number of parts is limited because it has one rhythm and 7 others, and if i want to use my keyboards that's either 2 parts taken, or if i spilt both keyboards, that's 4 parts taken!... need another sequencer

Nah don't get the little one with the efx thats shit. Basically, u can look at it this way. The 2004 is the top of the range of the 'too small and crap to be of any use to anyone more than a tinkerer' or the bottom of the range of the 'bring the shit on tek n0 producer' style mixer. What i'm trying to say is u don't want any less. I bought the thing in april, it has 8 monos and 4 stereos 2 efx loops, one without pre fader send which sux

( the monos are with gains and cool parametric eq's so u distort the shit out of cheesy bass lines that come outta the 505 so they sound sorta cheesy phat...anyone whose heard me at atmos in the last umm...2months who've wondered how the fuck my 505 gets screaming off its tits, its a combo of distorting the FUCK out of one of the direct outs, putting it thru a reverb/flanger/very very very detuned chorus algorithm to give it more space, and yeah. I was in my bedr00m at 3am playing with it and i got it sounding half like a 303, half not like a 303 but still cool heehehe..im like 'NICE ONE BRUV' hehe. )
Umm...gimme a few months and i'll hvae used up all the channels on it, i want to get a eurodesk 2442A or a 3282....even a yamaha 01D digital mixer for about 3.5 K..i mite wait and get that actually...yum

So my point is...yeah the 2004 ROX for small setups like mine and most likely everyone on this list..but once u start buying shit with more than a stereo pair of outputs (etc 505 has 6 outs, nova has 6, supernova has 8, ax000 samplers have a few i think, akai samplers can have 8 etc etc)..u need BIG FAT mixers...or more than one mixer. I woulnd't mind even getting a second 2004 and using it as a subgroup mixer, so then i can cart everything around in rack cases.... *shrugs* i dunno

umm. yeah...so basically. don't go for anythign smaller than the 2004. That means the 1804X too. It has efx but less channels than the 2004..

woohoo. 180 bux bought me a double tier'd quik lok keyboard stand, complete with all the extra's like alloy wheels, air conditiong, and sick extractors to make it sound like a v8 moite.
hehe..nah this keyboard stand is sexy = )

Hey Dudes, I got rebirth and Fruity loops ver nicely synced with my 505. Funnily though, Fruity Loops won't accept MIDI START/STOP messages.
Rebirth is really nice when synced up, with a midi controller FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!! SHIT!!!!! YEAY!!!! Some really nice 303 sounds would come about with a midi controller, a PC and rebirth! Anyway,enough of my ranting!
Fruity loops begins to fuck up on sync if you get too much going on, and have a low update buffer on the wave contollers, the longer the update, the more time it has to do its own shit, which means that there is no live controlling it if you have a lot of stuff going on. Two or Three TS-404's would work nice with a midi controller.
Rebirth was perfectly in sync and I never had any jumps, unless my hard drive was accessed.
If someone can prove me wrong, I found the Midi Controller channels were useless because I could not get the controllers to be applied on a specific part. On any part if I changed the various dials then it would send controller input irrespective of which part I was on. Hmmmm. Might try that one out later.
