Dance Like Nobody Is Watching? Fact or Fiction?

I do comment on other people but not that much and I never say it so they can hear it or point at them, etc. I try not to though because I'm very self-concious myself and am always paranoid that the people around me are laughing at me when I'm dancing, I get embarressed easily... it's really annoying but something I'm learning to deal with.

FACT... FACT....ACT...PHAT!
Generally i dance like there's nobody watching me, but then i know i'm an okay dancer, so at least i'd on't have that self-conscious feeling that i look like a complete retard when i start, the retarded bit comes in latter when the pill kicks in and i know i'm dancing like a retard but i just don't care. Generally tend not to notice others until i bump into them, or if they're a hot chick, or if they are so obviously fried like the asian guy @ (a certain asian sounding tech club) who was dancing so fast and had flexs of speed still falling out his nose. I always notice my mate chris because he has the wackest, in comp. good way, style of dancing i've ever seen- like chopped up small movements, that individually would look crap, but he makes them into a kick ass whole (SYNERGY) and because it's pretty much the opposite of my large flowing phase-dancing hand melding style. Dancing kicks ass

I'd like to say that i dance like no-one is watchin but my main prob is that i just can't get enough floor space, i mean i'm addicted to the stuff. Does anyone else find this a problem? So generally speakin i gots to hold back a fair bit for the sake of diplomacy, heck i don't wanna be stampin on ppls and the like, that just ain't kosher. Of course when ppl back away from me, whether it be to give me some extra space they ain't usin or cos they're scared im gonna accidentally let a limb smak em round, cos when i go i go all out, it sorta brings me back into the world of self-consciousness.
Don't think imma careless dancer tho. i try my best to take others on the floor into consideration, and i like to watch other peeps, especially when their style is fresh. its the best way to learn i rekkon. and i don't pay anyone on the floor out, if they suck, big deal, as long as they're lovin wat they hear, havin a good time its all good, why ruin someone else's fun with ur own judgement.
oh yeh and i'm pretty sure that i'm makin an ass of myself 99% of the time from my lack of style, but that doesn't bother me too much, cos its alot better than being too damn cool to dance... ever. and hey i wuz considered geeky all thru school, so i've sorta gotten used to not caring if peeple think i look wack.

Dancing is an expression of what the music is making you feel. Obviously if you've got better technical skills you can display the feeling better but as long as your dancing and having a good time, then theres no way at all you should be subject to ridicule. Not that people really do anyway,
I love watching people absolutely goin off in their own little world then they'll come back, you make eye contact and just give em a huge grin :)
Makes me happy! Heh
I'm an ok dancer, nothing too flash but i wanna get better so i can express myself in better ways :)
I think that watching other people is cool. People that are good with glow objects should be watched, cos that shit looks fucken sick when done rite. All in all, dance how ya wanna dance, and just have fun!

I dance like everyone is watching, because usually they are.
Exactly!
I would like to dance like no one is watching, but these days there are lot's of predators who are watching! There is no way I am going to let them see me with my guard down. I don't like to be looked at, it makes me feel violated if I don't feel "at one" with the people watching. I have a problem with the guys that watch you and it seems they think you are there to be looked at! Fuck off! They can ruin my night unless there is a big enough crowd to blend in...
I try not to make any judgements about peoples dancing as it's just the body's physical response to the music, it's supposed to look stupid! At least you know the person is being themselves... I suppose it's a bit of a sign of who you can identify with in a crowd. Someone who busting a whole lot of prerehearsed moves is there to be seen, not there for the music, so I have less in common with them than with the people just grooving with the music.

When I first started (which wasn't very long ago) I was self conscious because I didn't know what to expect. Then I found, after talking with some people, that they didn't really care and so I started to 'lose' myself to the music much more and now I enjoy it more.
I don't really watch other people's styles but I like to see other people relly getting into it, which brings a smile to my face.

So I beleve in dancing like nobody is watching even though they are because there usually isn't any strong opinion behind it so it's all good.

ahah andromeda ;)
i do on the other hand watch the people who are NOT dancing and wonder what is up with them...
quite true, i look at ppl who are just standing around doin nothin and think wtf are they doin!
dont often realise they *may* not feel the same as i do at the point in time, damn posers

dont often realise they *may* not feel the same as i do at the point in time, damn posersDamn posers? Because they don't want to dance at that point in time? Could you explain your post please dogah, its a bit unfair I think, tho maybe I just don't understand what you're trying to say...

Dancing for me is a reflection on the music. If the music is good/excellent/unbelievable, I can't help but get up and dance, whether it be nice and easy or fucking nuts. It doesn't matter whether people are watching or not, its whether I want to dance or not. (mind you if I never got tired I probably would never stop) :)
It doesn't bother me if people are watching, and I also really enjoy watching other people dance, whether it be because I think they are good or because I am intrigued by their own personal style.
In regards to 'dance like nobody's watching', I think that generally people are aware that others are watching them, and would want to dance to the best of their ability. Its only on the rare occasions, due to intense music or 'intense fuckedupedness', that people drift off to their own land, forget that others are around them, and do whatever the fuck they want.

i do look around when peopel dancing and the ebst thign happen when u dance hard and someone dance hard look at you and u both "fueling" up each other...
me myself might not be the best dancer but most of the time i just dance the way i like my dance.....
so what pisses me off is when there's no room at all for dance and way too packed club.....is liek u can;t even breathe...

Haha calvin,
When i try to dance with my eyes closed i lose my concept of space and get worried im all over the place, which im not. But cos i think that, it in turn throws my balance off
If the room was empty i would dance with my eyes closed :)

^ i agree! :)
dancing ability really isnt an issue, its whether youre doing is because you feel it or because you want to show off. i think showing off is generally fucked, but its also fun sometimes when youre getting visuals and someone sees you, and does some mad quick glowstick/light twirl or something... i think theres a fine line between showing off to make people think youre good, and showing off for fun - you can usually tell which category the person is falling into.
on the other hand i know a few different people who are excellent glowstick and or photon dancers - due to the control they have over the light, so continual, fluent and in time, not jerky. they know they are good, and they dont do it to show off, but they do it cos their acquaintances go 'get up and dance' just so we can watch cos it looks cool.
seeing someone dance with great timing and fleuncy is awesome and inspiring (possibly even jealousy - 'damn you i wish i had that sort of rhythm and control' :P), i love observing. while seeing someone who really has no control or rhythm but is really enjoying the experience just brings on a warm feeling of happiness.

I go through phases of dancing like nobody's watching. In fact it's sort of where my name comes from. Like Tabernacle, mine is also usually of the hand movement style.
Good or even enthusiastic dancing is added value, performer based entertainment, so yeah I watch...but do I ever laugh at it?....more of a smile really ;)

Well for starters i love dancing!
If i want some idea's on some good moves i do watch other people. i don't judge them if they look shit because if ur havin a good time, then that's all that matters!
We are all go out dancin' for a good time, ...not a judgemental one.

Jermz... Couldn't agree more...
It's about having a good time, not feeling you're being put under a microscope because you can't pull off splenderific moves. Watching other people dance well is just part of the night I guess; and if you enjoy it, give credit where it's deserved.
Seeing people really getting into music is great... Just make sure you give it a try yourself!!

the only problem i have with other's dancing style is when i happen to look up from my own little world i tend to regress into, and see someone really, really, concentrating, and not smiling. like they've gotta focus all their energy into their rythem or they'll lose it...
i mean, let's face it, we're all dancing like ecstacy addled morons anyway, so why not just enjoy :)

I don't dance like nobody is watching. I dance like they could be watching me and I don't really mind. :)
I don't really get embarrassed even when dancing on my own, retarded on substances or not. It's quite nice actually to have people watching you when you're dancing, cuz while there's always the chance they're thinking "that fool can't dance for shite", you can always pretend they're admiring your style anyway. ;)
Dancing rules! :D
Though so does getting aquainted with the floor. ;)
