ok so i did a little of looking around on the web, and found an australian website (i live in australia) that sells legal, alternative herbs that you can drink and some you can smoke or both. They claim that Damiana (Turnera Aphrodisiaca) is "Smoked for happy effect and to effectively cut down or quit the use of cannabis. Also a pleasant anti-depressant tea."

Does anyone have experience with this herb? im looking for an effective way to cut down on my usage abit and think that if this stuff can help, then why not!

If you want to cut down marijuana usage, i recommenced physical activity. Keep yourself occupied and you wont even think of smoking up.

do you mind if i ask why you want to cut down?

ive been smoking around 4grams on average per day for around a month and a half. my tolerance is really high now and smoking isnt what it was before i started smoking so heavily. I figure if i cut down/stop for a little while then my tolerance will go down again and weed will have its magic back :)

I asked because i thought maybe the OP was trying to cut down for health reasons, in which case i would say replacing marijuana with another herb probably wont have many health benefits.

but in this case i would say in addition to cutting down, you could try and find different types of pot. pure indicas, pure sativas. if you switch it up on the regular then shit stays magical. lol

That sounds blissful, but here in australia its extrememly rare to be able to choose a type of strain or even between indica or sativa's.

i got a packet with a couple grams for free with a kratom purchase....i didn't feel a thing besides a numbing sensation in my mouth. maybe you'll get "good" damiana...but i doubt you'll enjoy it. you'll enjoy running a mile more than you will smoking a joint of this shit.
i havent really come across anything to substitute for weed...and i've been looking for over two years now. nothing works, kratom is alright but addicting. gl...

I have reduced my Cannabis use over a period of 2-3 years, from twenty or more 'single paperies' per day to one or two late in the evening.

The biggest factor was eliminating tobacco from the equation, I mixed the pot with a variety of kitchen herbs with very limited satisfaction for a couple of years, eventually the tobacco craving subsided and I no longer felt the need to smoke a little joint every hour or so.

I couldn't find many herbs that didn't have my friends asking me if I was smoking the Sunday roast, the most unobtrusive herb I could come up with was Sage intended as a Tea.

Recently I discovered Damiana and I haven't looked back. I would describe it as a "Stone Enhancer", it definitely gave me a very cruisey, laid back stone and put all in the world right again. It was discarded by a friend and given to me in plain packaging. I had no idea it was supposed to by an aphrodisiac or mood altering drug so I was very pleasantly surprised when the effect kicked in.

It was a very subtle effect and probably not noticeable to someone who is habitually smashed on weed, but in my low-intake state it definitely had me feeling very happy with life and my lot in it. I don't attribute this happy state to the pot because I smoke to wind down, veg out a bit before trying to go to sleep at night, it doesn't usually make me happy, just switches me down a few notches.

Another feature of this herb is that it has the same pleasant raspy-ness that satisfies tobacco smokers. Most other herbs don't seem to offer this; they are either too smooth or too harsh.

I would highly recommend at least trying it to see how you go. The price is a bit scary though, compared to the ten dollars a half kilo that my friend paid from a wholesaler somewhere.

Cheers and good luck.

exercise and read books. cutting back marijuana is about finding something else to do when you're bored, not replacing one psychoactive with another.

OP they give you the "tools you need to quit cannabis" if what your looking for is a massive dose of placebo then go right ahead.

Ok, since my OP, i have cut down majorly, i have gone from smoking every day, to smoking weekly if that. The main factor to that was i just got abit bored of weed and its affects because of my tolerance. So i cold turkey quit for a few months, and every smoke since then, has been very nice indeed. i will make the effort in the comming week or so to get some damiana to use instead of tobacco, even though i rarely use tobacco to spin with my weed ( as i dont smoke it normally) i dont feel the need to have it in there when i could have a much healthier ulternative, also no where nere as addictive. Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated :)

want to cut down on your marijuana consumption!? wtf just stop smoking as much then! Cannabis is not addictive. I usually just smoke at night b4 bed these days. works wonder for insomnia!

Can't really do that here (Ohio) either. Hell, most of these rednecks don't even know the words sativa/indica!! But the smoke going around is usually pretty decent!!

Damiana has an effect kind of like an alright midgrade cannabis. Doesn't last as long, but still is alright. And best thing is it's legal, at least in the states. And for us who have professional jobs, it def works for the UA's! So if you want to be able to catch a quick nice high, i do enjoy it. And it doesn't really smell like weed when smoked, has it's own smell. Except when you smoke it around a heavy pot area (IE. clubs/bars) cuz then some people who don't know freak out and the damiana kinda picks up the weed smell, and before you know it, you get kicked out. (personal experience here...haha) But GL with everything!

i like to read about MJ - lik this. that helps me not want to smoke it. as a weekend smoker, i find that when monday comes around u just want to keep on going.. But if u stop, by weds u are prtty much in the clear and look forward to a fresh buz on friday.

if u long smoke to wind down before bed, id say its a medicalinal use, rather then recreational..
