damage to opiate receptors + not feeling effects of alcohol

does anyone know if opiate/brain receptors can be changed forever?

i was also wondering if anyone was experiencing this, after taking opiates - and now im clean - i get no effects from alcohol, anyone know why or had this happen to them? im worried i have some kind of permanent damage

I would think they could be damaged just like any other receptor system. I'm sure from being over-saturated, they down-regulate, and I don't know how quickly/if they ever regenerate. I would also think that with some of these crasy opioid RC's hitting the market, there is a chance of some bad one that fries your receptors.

I unfortunately couldn't offer more than that.

thanks for the reply. i feared that answer, the reason i ask is that after using opiate pain killers for 6 months i feel something is damaged. now that ive been off opiates for months i still dont have a sex drive anymore and also alcohol doesnt work anymore, no euphoria/buzz. kinda scared im damaged for life? :/

Yes, kratom will help. Are you f-'ed for life, doubtfully. Opiate withdrawal can be a lengthy process. Look up PAWS.

thats the thing, i didnt really have withdrawals, i just looked up PAWS and i dont think im suffering any of those symptoms either. im at a loss, you say its doubtfull im messed up for life but its certainly scaring me

I don't know if this is what you're talking about but ever since I started abusing opiates I get absolutely NO euphoria from alcohol what so ever. It still makes me tired, throws me off balance, lowers my inhibitions etc. etc. but I don't feel good. It also makes me crave opiates like a motherfucker once I actually get drunk.

YES...Opana is one of the strongest opiates you can get on the street, ( I believe its a combo of morphine and oxy, but not 100% sure on this), usually very hard to find. Not sure about the w/ds from it, most people I know that take it, only take it here and there, as its not readily available most of the time and is very pricey, so most people dont use it regularly, unless they have a steady connection for it.

Ive taken them here and there in the past, havent seen them around in about 3 yrs though, but my state enacted some tough pain pill laws in 2012, now, its nearly all heroin thats readily available, but I do remember half of a 40mg Opana knocked me the fuck out, and I had a high tolerance at the time, it was a great high...the abuse potential has to be ridiculous, but I assume its w/ds are like any other opiate..???

Opana is the brand name for oxymorphone and it's an opioid, not an opiate.

do what rhun says. I'll add if you expect it to be bad, but it will be worse. Hydrocodone withdrawal still exists, but is much tamer to morphine based w/d. Cannabis will help and even ketamine could help at night time in small doses or DXM in the same dose it is suggested for cough syrup (20 mg every 4-6 hours although use it at night time only). Good luck with getting off!

Opiates are compounds found in opium poppies and they are not necessarily opioids, e.g. noscapine and papaverine are opiates that are not opioids. Oxymorphone is an opioid but it is not an opiate.

Your whole dealio, your not gonna have any lasting negative brain changes from nondependance inducing opioid use. Maybe some minor down regulation at the most. It's more of a pandora a box situation, alcohol doesn't seem as pleasent anymore now that you compare it to opiates. Just try and have a positive out look.

Do you know how long withdrawal takes to kick in after you take the last hydrocodone pill? If I take my last dose on say a Thursday night, when would withdrawal start? I'm sure it depends on the dose huh? Thanks.

So my first guess is that by you using opiates, you have set a new standard for getting that good feeling of being drunk, you might get alcohol poisoned before you'll start feelin good. The only other reason this might be occurring is that you've worn out the [/FONT][FONT=Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif]neurotransmitter gammaaminobutyric acid (GABA). Now I'm no doctor so I don't much but, those 2 reasons seem logical to me.

Before you try drinking again, go up to your health food store and get some GABA pills or get prescription strength GABA from your doctor and start taking them so you can make up for what you body can no longer make. Then try drinking again and see if it gets you feeling good. Just be careful because you will crave Opiates when your drunk because they're linked via brain chemistry or what ever.
