'You sold my son bath salts. I’ll kill you': Furious father smashes up shop that sold boy legal drugs which left him in hospital

  • A mother was charged with trespassing two weeks ago after she started shouting at staff in a shop that sold 'bath salts'
  • These drugs can be sold legally in the US as long as they are not marked for human consumption
  • In high doses, the chemicals can cause violent behaviour and terrifying hallucinations

An angry father flew into a rage and smashed up a shop that supplied legal 'bath salts' type drugs that put his son in hospital. Justin Avery, 24, was taken to New York's Samaritan Hospital after snorting a powder labelled 'glass cleaner' that his friends had called 'fake cocaine'. According to police reports, his father Dan then called the store where his son had paid $20 for the legal high and left a message saying: 'You sold my kid bath salts and I’ll [expletive] kill you'.

Justin had never used any drug stronger than marijuana, he said, but snorted the glass cleaner for the first time one evening because he was upset and had heard it would give him a buzz. But by 1.30am his heart was racing wildly, he was sweating heavily and his breathing had become so laboured he thought he would die.

I can picture the guy snorkling err snorting Windex... all of it.

Hey... some convenience stores sell the most unusual shit.

"Ya feel like fixing that male pattern baldness and you couldn't get to it during the Christmas eve rush? Fear not my half neo-nazi comrade - we carry Rogaine!"

His son was old enough to make an informed decision.

Instead, he threw caution to the wind and insufflated an unknown substance at an unknown dose.

Good job.

Maybe had you taught your son something about drug use other than "just say no" , " you know why they call it dope? Derp" the outcome may have been less upsetting.

"I failed as a parent by not educating my child about harm reduction, so I'm going to go fuck up a local business owner's shop"....

@_@

what a douche

It's always the horrible drugs that are evil.

Maybe if we had a system structured to dispense psychedelics like maps.org does dualistically combining science and spirit, we'd have a better set to of rules to go by. Our treacherous simian heritage I place in blame.

Looks like the reader comments favouring the father are getting all the green arrows. Nothing like a "think of the children!" article to get the sheeple's blood boiling. Even if the "child" is actually a fully grown adult who made a conscious decision to act and who probably was also aware of the "bath salt" media storm.

Fuck sense, it'd be hilariously entertaining and people would set up folding chairs to watch!

We could charge it and balance the stupid fucking budget!

If angry parents attacked liquor store owners when their children got into drunk driving accidents, this would make a lot more sense to me.

It is amazing how normal and acceptable alcohol is and is ingrained in people's minds as normal, safe, legal. Yet it is up there as one of the strongest drugs. I could function on heroin to where most people would never know, but not alcohol. We would never see alcohol maintenance like we see opiate maintenance. Nobody is going to line up outside a clinic and drink half a bottle of booze and then go to work like we see with heroin/methadone addicts, but people think alcohol is safer. Then again most people don't think for themselves and just regurgitate what others tell them. The fact is a $14 bottle of whiskey can take down a lumberjack, not so with other drugs. Yes other drugs need to be treated with respect, but with something like heroin availability (or lack of) is one of the biggest factors in some of the biggest problems with it. We have seen people go on methadone and not steal or spend all their time scoring anymore. But in society alcohol is acceptable as well as available. Crazy.

Yes, this man needs to grow up and think before he acts. It is the same situation as a parent not wanting their kids to be around a marijuana dispensary and protests medical marijuana while it being perfectly ok to live near a liquor store of pharmacy. Makes NO sense at all. But it takes a thinking person to realize that.

My first thoughts....should have properly educated the kid so he wouldn't have even been in this position in the first place, but fuck that would then mean its partially the dad's fault and certainly no one wants that! Lets just shuffle the blame around! Facking humans.........8(

'That’s when I just went crazy,' said Avery. He pulled the bat out of his pants and started swinging. He smashed the five-foot-long glass counter and a couple of glass ashtrays. Then he started flinging glass pipes from shelves at Harding.
'Here’s a nice one,' Avery remembers yelling as he threw the pipes. 'Here’s another nice one.'

That's actually pretty funny.

'You sold my son bath salts. I’ll kill you'

This concept could have many uses...

'You sold my son gay porno - I'll kill you!'

'You sold my son a defective wristwatch - I'll kill you!'

'You sold my son GMO foods - I'll kill you!'

'You sold my son whiskey - I'll kill you!'

The point is, in all cases the item being sold is LEGAL and it's only the father's interpretation of events that makes him crazed. People need to be responsible for their own actions and stop blaming others.
