With reader comments

When Jenny Hayworth pulled her daughter’s PE kit from her sports bag, something dropped to the floor. There was no mistaking the thin, white object. The only question was: what was her daughter Amy doing with a half-smoked joint? When Jenny confronted her, Amy burst into tears and admitted she’d tried cannabis for the first time at a friend’s party a few weeks before and had recently smoked it for a second time.

From the reader comments it looks like most of the readers aren't impressed with this article and it is heading the way of a veritable lead balloon ;)

i can't believe how backwards the whole system is... it just seems so absurd, i don't know if i'll ever understand the stance against drugs people make so much effort to make

12 year olds! That's who!

I used to stash mine in the craziest places when I was 12 years old, for paranoia and whatnot. She probably thought "My mum will never look in my PE bag!" or something.

Who knows? This ain't really news though....Shit-tonnes of folk I know started at 12 and younger.

And aye, the "tried it once at a party" line always cracks me up. That's the same story that everyone uses! Of course, I said to my mum when she found out that I only tried it once at a party, as you're not exactly going to say "Yeah I smoke erryday, in fact, i'm stoned 95% of the time you speak to me"!

OMG 11-12 are smoking weed now, meh this is nothing new; preteens have been using weed for as long as it has been in existence. I didn't take my first toke till I was 16 but I know people that started as young as 9.

At age 12 I had used weed, opium and nitrous oxide.

Kids have always and will always want to do drugs, and some kids will always find a way to get them. Thas just how it is.

I hadn't really looked at a Daily Mail article before this one and I'm amazed by how incredibly awful it is. Is that trash really popular in Britain?

Who keeps a half smoked joint in a PE bag?

Thats what I was thinking, better yet. Who keeps a half smoked joint? thats just begging to be caught, it's like the smell of weed, plus the smell of burnt weed.

Stupid kids. -.-

& To the guy above me (psychosomething)

yes, british news is pretty much all this bad.

jesus am i the only one that didnt do any drugs till they graduated? i guess that happens when you grow up mormon ;) when you guys were kids was it easier to get pot than alcohol? if it was then that alone is the only reason there needs to be for legalizing and regulating it so you can only get it when you are say 18 or 21?

dog MDMA, amphetamines, OCs, vicodins, bud, were all easier to get than alkyhol for the most part junior and senior year

i remember greeting my classmate stoners in 7th grade homeroom with a resounding "happy 420!"

Yeah, it was way easier to get weed then alcohol. Shit, for a lot of people I know it's easier to get a bag of weed then it is to get a soda. But I live a few blocks from several gas stations. Still, weed takes less then 20 minutes for me to get and alcohol generally takes me half an hour or 45 minutes.

In fact, it was easier to get most hard drugs then alcohol. As a minor, crack and meth and most psychedelics and benzos were easier for me to get then alcohol, at least while I was in high school.

I traded food from my lunch for methylphenidate and adderall on the regular in middle school, and bought dope, weed, benzos, pcp and crack from other kids. Alcohol was a little harder to get, I had to steal it from my parents. Sometimes I could get a bum to buy me some. But I did other drugs more often then booze.

Wow, I'm sorry, that's just terrible.

I was actually just talking about this the other day with a friend.

We were jsut saying looking back how young children that are 10 11 and 12 look and how many peeople at that age are actually smoking weed or even doing other drugs. I cant remember ever looking so fucking small ha.

Altering the mind is in the human instinct and everyone is looking to relax and take a break from reality for while...even if your 12. Humans will always be using drugs.

well the Daily Mail is really the worst, trashy, biased, closed-minded etc. there's some half decent newspapers.

i like the Telegraph, they tend to be quite realistic. they even named Albert Hofmann number 1 in the top 100 living geniuses! now that's a newspaper i want to read

Too bad it's only second in readership to The Sun. Which is practically the same 'quality'.

Ah the old daily pail :p . Noone i know in the UK takes this rag seriously and the only people that do seem to be old bastards that would have voted for Thatcher. But seriously how is 12 year old's smoking cannabis news? I am 29 and i first smoked hash when i was 11 years old and so did alot of the people in my area i grew up with so it's not like this was yesterday :\
