Now Mexican gangs really are bombarding America with drugs: Smugglers use T-shirt CANNONS to fire soup cans filled with marijuana 500ft over border

U.S. Border Patrol agents have seized more than 30 cans filled with marijuana that were lunched by Mexican drug smugglers over the border fence into Arizona using a cannon. Authorities say 33 cans of pot were spotted Friday in a field near where the Colorado River crosses the U.S.-Mexico border. They believe the cans were propelled about 500 feet into the U.S. from a pneumatic-powered cannon similar to the ones used to launch T-shirts.

After searching the area, agents recovered a carbon dioxide tank. Mexican authorities were also notified and searched their side of the border, but no arrests have been made. The 85 pounds of marijuana found inside what appeared to be soup cans inserted into larger sealed containers had an estimated value of $42,500. All the seized narcotics are scheduled to be destroyed.

Is the entire USA/Mexican borderline protected and patrolled or are there plenty of places where you can just walk through?

that's a pretty funny story. I remember seeing lots of interesting things on that natgeo show called border wars or whatever it was. Seemed mostly like a huge waste of money. I don't think there are many places you can just walk through the border from mexico to the US but i don't know about it that well. Canada into the US however is a much different story, wide open border in many places. I've heard of similar stories to this before.

i find it kind of weird that so much cannabis is smuggled over the border, there must be a huge demand in the US.

No I'm almost certain there is no part of the border that you can just walk across, it's either swim, climb, or dig a tunnel
That's been done plenty of times lol

But the Rio Grande makes up part of the border along Texas and the rest towards Cali is a big fence

there are plenty of spots that're basically wide open (ie no hard obstacles, like little 40' river passes and whatnot). The entirety of it is *monitored* tho (but, in some areas, the monitoring is INCREDIBLY weak)
northern border is wayy more open, particularly at reservations (some kids i knew had a very successful pot import going on through an indian reservation, they blew up very fast...and got dumb and are now all in jail i think..)

Bmxxx nailed it. The vast majority has no physical border (save for a river for a good chunk) and is seldom patrolled. Seismic sensors and IR cameras, along with aerial surveillance does the rest. In all honesty is pretty damn porous. But the most porous areas are often quite inhospitable, and far from infrastructure, like roads, etc.

I wondered the same thing. I've never heard of a cannon that shoots T shits I dont think lol

haha ic. god it's been quite a while since i've been to a sporting event (my add pretty much prohibits me from enjoying spectating sports)

lol the demand for cannabis in the U.S. is so high that the methods for getting it there are getting more and more crazy.

Just goes to show how unnatural the drug laws are when applied to the economy.

OK cheers. We don't get that happening over here as far as I know. Not that i got many sporting events, but I watch some on TV, and I cant recall them doin that over here. Good way to shoot some drugs over the fence into a jail tho as well :P
