A homeowner will spend the festive season behind bars after he turned his favourite pot plant into a Christmas tree, complete with baubles.

Ian Richards, 46, had decorated his fully-grown cannabis tree that police discovered after raiding his house.

He was behind bars today after a judge jailed him for 18 months for growing the cannabis plant - and a dozen others in his home in Aylesham, near Canterbury, Kent.

Let's put to jail some poor innocent guy who committed the supreme crime of growing a plant. Brilliant.

It's about time a jury showed a "total disregard for the law" because they have a right to.

^ Exactly. and didn't the founding fathers show a "total disregard for the law?"

I mean I know this happened in britain but I think people should understand that the United States exists because people were tired of getting pushed around and stood up for change.

UK law and US law are two different things.
For such a small landlocked country, the UK has done well for itself. Of course cannabis should be legal in the UK, but in the meantime, people are going to made an example of that do crap like this. I would like to hear what his response was. If he was really simply "that stupid", then whatever.

like it or not cannabis is illegal so im guessing a cannabis christmas tree was probably visable from the street, this leads me to think the guy wasnt very discreet with his drug use/supply
generally the police will turn a blind eye to drug use so long as there is no problems and also provided people are not openly seen to be taking drugs.
much as id love cannabis to be made legal whilst it is illegal you just have to accept that you need to be discreet

My point was that the U.S. exists because people stood up and that while this didn't happen in the U.S, people standing up for themselves still has relevance.

LOL @ Daily Mail's failure at trying to make a petty marijuana seizure relevant enough to run a story on by adding a 'witty' festive spin...
