The Capital is emerging as a hub for those smuggling pseudoephedrine - a substance used to illegally manufacture party drugs such as ecstasy.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is probing one of the biggest hauls of the drug, a controlled substance which is used in medicines. In a little over a month, 235 kilogrammes of the drug have been seized in Delhi.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has recovered 160kgs from the Delhi airport since October and another 74kgs were seized by the NCB while they investigated a drug cartel being run from Delhi, the north-eastern states and Myanmar.
The drug is smuggled to Myanmar, where it is used to manufacture party drugs, which are then smuggled back to Delhi. Sources say while most consignments are smuggled to Europe a new trend is emerging and a large quantity is also being traded in Delhi.
