A British holidaymaker collapsed and died from a suspected overdose of Ecstasy at an Ibiza nightclub this morning. Judy Nieman, 20, was taken ill at Space in the early hours as she danced with friends. Staff called emergency services when she fell unconscious at around 4.30am.

It is the first suspected drugs death on the Spanish party island this year.

A survey three years ago found 44 per cent of British holidaymakers aged 16 to 35 visiting Ibiza admitted taking Ecstasy while on the island, with 40 per cent of users taking it on five or more days.

The Ecstasy market in Ibiza, famed worldwide for its super-clubs, is largely controlled by gangsters from the UK. Rival gangs from Liverpool and Manchester employ armies of dealers who supply drugs to clubbers.

People, even teens, who take drugs know the risks, it is plastered all over the place and kids grow up so fast these days. As with anything exciting there is a side which is dangerous and sadly for this young girl it has proved fatal. I feel very sorry for her family but deaths from recreational drugs will continue as long as people choose to abuse drugs.

'deaths from recreational drugs will continue as long as people choose to abuse drugs.'

Fairly obvious statement there - kinda like Zelda wears iron boots so he can sink in water areas.

Maybe people wouldn't be capable of abusing drugs if 1. they didn't have a death wish or 2. if they had better education on drugs and the use of them.

This is sad, but there is a good chance the "ecstasy" she overdosed on wasn't MDMA.

I'm curious. When MDMA was still legal in the US, pre 1984, was there a lot of pharmaceutical-grade MDMA about? If so, did anyone ever die from it even though it was being used recreationally since about the mid 70s?

Would be great to be able to quote exactly what company was making the stuff. I thought it was being strongly promoted as a relationship-healing therapeutic tool at that time.

It's not just the fact that most pills aren't MDMA, there is also the question of how well it was synthed even if it was an attempt to make MDMA. I no next to nothing about chemistry myself, but I'm curious as to what kind of nasties are likely to lurk in a pill/powder if MDMA is badly synthed?

This is why people should be Well educated on Drugs!!!
INSTEAD of banning them and making them illegal and an absolute Taboo.

People need to know about Hydration,
And rolling 5 days in a roll..... ??????

Faaaaaaaaaaaaaacking hell.

Much knowledge to share... Although , being new to raving and drugs most people dont even listen to me if they are "vets" 3 years+, Me since october.

But i spend lots of my free time reading and learning!

Agreed.

Do they even know what drug she overdosed/"overdosed" on?

Totally possible to OD on MDMA, but just likely that it was something else. For such a widely-used drug, it's still an extremely low death rate per year, especially compared to things like tobacco, alcohol, etc.

Think everything's already been said, I was just wondering what the hell kind of a name is Judy for a 20 year old!?
