- Study based on 1,595 undergraduates
- Worrying for medical experts given the known dangers of excess drinking
- Every year more than 696,000 students are assaulted by another student who has been drinking each year
- More than 400,000 have unprotected sex as a result of their drinking each year
- Around 25 per cent of college students report academic consequences of their drinking

Binge drinking college students claim to be happier than their sober classmates, according to a report released at the Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association in Denver on Monday.
The results make troubling reading for medical experts, given the known dangers of binge drinking, defined as knocking back more than four drinks per session for females or five for males.
