Figured I'd make a new thread for this question, but if a moderator feels it should be moved to the CD Social then go ahead. I just feel I may get more answers if I make my own thread.

I have IBS, or at least that's what I've been diagnosed with but there are some things I forgot to mention to the doctor (diarrhea waking me up, dairy being a MASSIVE trigger etc.). It's not as bad these days since I cute alcohol and dairy out completely, but it still flares up a little bit every now and then whatever it is. If it doesn't cause horrible diarrhea then it will just make me feel a bit shitty, give me stomach pains/discomfort, have no appetite and maybe feel a bit nauseous. This seems to be the case most of the time these days, which I'm thankful for because the diarrhea was truly horrible.

Anyway, smoking a tiny bit of weed really helps. As in it will make me feel almost completely normal again and allow me to eat. The only worry I have is that using cannabis daily can have certain side effects.

Now I was wondering, would using the tiniest bit of weed maybe once a day maximum have any semi-long term side effects like impaired cognitive functioning (short term memory, concentration etc.). I only need to smoke the tiniest bit of weed for relief, and at most it will just relax me a tiny bit but nowhere near getting me 'high' or 'stoned'.

If I were to try and explain how little the amount is, it's probably something like if you got a bud. Ground it up into little bits then took 2-3 of those little bits. So it's a very small amount but it really helps.

Recreationally, as in GETTING HIGH AS FUUUUCK, I will only use weed once a week maximum. Maybe for going out as an alternative to alcohol, or after a night of MDMA, or to just chill with mates at the weekend.

So would this, in your educated opinions, be likely to cause me to suffer the long term side effects of daily cannabis use? I can't ask my doctor about this because she's so anti-weed it actual annoys me. She told me I needed to stop smoking weed because it may make everything worse, and when I stopped smoking weed for about a month because of exams I realised it made no difference and then discovered weed (as long as not used with tobacco) is a fucking miracle cure for my problems. So my doctor would just tell me drugs are bad and I shouldn't smoke weed.

you are going to get mixed advance wherever. This is a great place to ask, but it will also be leaning in one direction or the other for some. We are just a collective of people.

Ill let your thread float before i find the correct spot for me, but we do not give medical advice in general, and advise we are not your doctors, ultimately the choice is up to you

I think we need a medical marijuana thread where everyone discusses medicinal use. Anyway there's some evidence that smoking weaker marijuana is less likely to mess with your head. If your smoking chronic daily you can end up burnt out. But then people will point out that lower grade marijuana is harder on your lungs. I prefer to grind up dank and cheap stuff together...

The weed around here is mostly what you would call 'mids' i think, but sometimes there's some strong shit.

I suppose I'll just have to try it out and see how I'm doing in a few weeks, if I start getting 'slow' (and I know how it feels) then I'll have to stop I suppose. But it is basically a miracle cure that I don't want to give up.

Honestly you needn't worry about side effects. I have Inflammatory Bowel Disease and I smoke weed on a daily basis to help the pain and the intestinal distress that comes along with it. I'd suggest you start looking for Indica or Indica Dominate Hybrids as Indicas will work significantly better than Sativas in helping the pain and grief.

In my experience, all these "Smoking weed makes you forgetful" "Smoking weed makes you stupid" is nothing more than an excuse as to why some lazy stoners start failing school or something. Most of the time, its actually because those kids are not going to school, and has nothing to do with weed. I have been smoking everyday for years, yet I was still able to teach myself Physics and Calculus, and I'm enrolled in University for next fall.

As long as you don't start getting lazy, and just keep doing all your work in the exact same way you had before, you will be fine.

Thanks this has been quite helpful. I guess I'll stick with it, I don't smoke enough to make me into a lazy stoner really.

Unfortunately dealers over here don't know anything about strains, they just get weed and sell it. If I were to ask my dealer for an indica strain he'd say "what's an indica?"

Glad I could help, I know first hand how bloody awful it is to be woken up by you're intestines yet being unable to stand up due to the pain.

Remember, your dealer might be too ignorant to the different strains but you don't have to be. Kush strains are Indica or Indica Dominant and they will work wonders, and thanks to the increasing popularity of Kush strains (most notably in my area Purple Kush) it shouldn't be too hard for you to find a dealer with it if your current dealer doesn't.

Thing is they don't even know what strains it is, around here (the UK) you just buy weed and you smoke it. No one ever knows what strain it is.

Got some stuff at the moment which I think is more of an indica because it relaxes me and gives me more of a body high.

And yeah crawling to the toilet in the middle of the night is not great fun. Luckily not had to deal with that for a while.

Smoking daily doesn't cause impaired cognition for most people (besides the psychoactive effect in itself). The reason why some long-term heavy smokers seem stupid is due to intellectual laziness rather than a direct effect of weed. That is, when you're not smoking all the time you tend to have to work harder to entertain yourself, and keeping your brain busy is the best way to keep it healthy.

I smoked every day for a few years and my grades never dropped. I still did very well in difficult courses, if that's what you're worried about. I'm hardly alone in that regard. The only possible significant side effect of smoking all of the time is that some people notice it starts to worsen anxiety and depression after several years.
