OK, probably off topic.
Don't know where to post it either.
Sorry Johnboy ;-)
Anyway, this was mailed through MAPS a few days ago.

(*) If I am informed right, even the MDMA salt itself does exist in
two forms, which each have a different psychoactive effect: d-MDMA
which is more energetic and l-MDMA which is more a 'relaxed
entactogen'. When MDMA is made from pure synthetic percursors and not
separated one gets a mixture (dl-MDMA) or 'racemic' MDMA.
I have no idea if one of the underground methods to produce MDMA
in a 'half synthetic' way, i.e. from essential plant oils, results in
l-MDMA as final product. If so, then there may exist a whole spectrum
of different MDMA's (from pure d to dl to pure l) MDMA, which each
have other risk levels.

Feel free to move to the appropriate forum.

nah its good info... dunno where it should go to tell the truth (except i'll be nicking it for my forum

)
this would go a long way to explaining the different feeling that different batches of MDMA give...

I had heard rumours like this already a long time ago.
It seems that mdma is available in many varieties.
I wonder what a test kit will look like in a few years ;-)
Anyway, this is serious stuff.
Does anyone have more info on this ??

The different forms should only react differently with substances that can exist in both l and d forms
Simple (most) acids will react the same with both forms.
What does Marquis consist of?

Sorry, I meant : Does anyone have more info on the varieties of MDMA.
Not : what colorchange will these varieties produce.

Every method of producing mdma produces a 50-50 mix of both these isomers. It is expensive, dificult, and wasteful to seperate them, particularly with larger amounts. You will never ever come across optically pure drugs on the street, other then lsd, so you do not need to worry about testing them. But I would be very surprised if they didn't give the exact same color change.

According to the PIHKAL, d-MDMA, AKA S-MDMA seems to be the more active isomer. The levo-isomer (AKA R-MDMA) seems to be quite weak.
Racemate rules!

There is no simple way to test for D-L isomers or even the witches brew od analogues that is in the street pills. I seriously doubt even dance safe, the test site is quantifying for isomers race mixes. Spooky stuff especially since some isomers can be toxic!

Just to tidy up the terminology: compounds (in this case MDMA) with near-identical isomers are called 'chiral compounds', from the Greek for hands). Look at your hands on the keyboard in front of you, mirror images of each other (well, good enough), but if you put them together like your praying you can see that although their shapes go together, they are back to front.
I think it is quite possible to separate the racemic into the L and D isomers, how would Sasha Shulgin be able to test them if he hadn't?
Nice idea about having a range of mixes, 20/80, 40/60 and so on.

MDMA will never be seperated into the seperate isomers for sale in pills. EVER! It's possible to do, but theres absolutely no practical reason to do it. So unless your super duper hooked up with a very well equiped chemist it aint gonna happen. There's only two isomers.
