Hi just wondered if I could do a cwe with paracetamol and dihydrcodeine also been a while since I last did one can someone talk me through it again pls I just used coffee filters b4 and never really got the bad taste people talk about n if I left it a while a white sludge sank to the bottom is this normal?

Thanks

Yes, you can do a CWE to seperate the DHC from the APAP.

1. Crush your pills
2.Dissolve your powder into around 50ml of cold water
3.Take a square of fine cloth (Dress shirt or pillowcase will do), wet it, and attach it to the rim of a glass with a rubber band, creating a convex surface for the solution to go
4.Pour your solution into the filter and allow it to filter itself (Usually takes 20 minutes to half an hour). Place it in your fridge if possible, to maintain temperature.
5.Once there are no more drops coming through the filter, carefully remove it and gently squeeze the remaining liquid from the clump of binders/APAP

If you really want to be sure to get out the most APAP/paracetamol as possible, you can repeat steps 3 and 4 with your DHC/water solution.

EDIT: Forgot to answer the last question you had; The sludge on the bottom is probably a little bit of APAP/parecetamol combined with the binder particles that were able to fall into solution. This is normal if you used a lot of pills for your extraction and if you left it sit long enough for the particles to fall out of solution. There is probably very little APAP/paracetamol in your final solution.

Squeezing increases the likelihood of APAP getting through (not so bad with fabric actually, but with paper it also increases the chances of it ripping and you having to start again :| ) and fabric isn't the best filter I find.. it can work perfectly, but it entirely depends on the fabric :)

CWE megathread :)

The sludge will be suspended insoluble particles which settle on the bottom, APAP/fillers/binders etc. You don't want these to be there - small amounts will get through but if there's a lot then you might want to change what you use as your filter..

Thanks for the replies so just another quick question then.if I let the slush sink to the bottom then drink the solution at the top thru a straw I will avoid ingesting the paracetamol?

I would not rely on this at all, you don't know how much paracetamol is still in suspension in the solution.. Avoiding drinking the sludge is definitely better than drinking it, but I'd re-filter if you have sludge settling like this. You don't want to mess around with paracetamol.

I wouldn't do that, apart from possible safety issues think about the fact that you will have dihydrocodeine stuck in that gunk at the bottom that would partially be retrieved via filtering.
