I'm doing my very first CWE soon (Codeine & Paracetamol) and I have a few questions.

1. Does it matter how much water you use?

2. Is crushing the pills needed? If so, do they need to be finely crushed?

3. Do you wait until everything is settled before filtering?

4. Can you keep the resulting product for a while or do you need to consume it ASAP?

5. When mixed with water and settled, should the paracetamol all stay at the bottom and the codeine on top and then go onto filtering?

6. Does the water need to be ice cold?

1. I don't believe it needs to be distilled water or anything, tap water will do a/okay.

2. Crushing pills into powder is needed to be dissolved into water, fine powder will dissolve faster.

3. I don't quite understand, it is not like a alcohol extraction where the more you wait the more will be at the bottom. Letting it sit for 30 minutes will have the almost the same effect of acetaminophen/ Paracetamol than letting it sit for 24 hours, really nothing different, just let sit for 30 minutes. I hope that answered your question.

4. If your going to store a codeine solution, keep it in a dark container refrigerated away from light. Should last more than a week, can't state a specific time frame. I still wouldn't recommend doing this because the Codeine will dissolve in oxygen in a container.

5. Still not quite sure, when I filter i just pour the whole solution including the Paracetamol part into the filter and I would do this two times, You wont lose much Codeine.

6. When you first mix the powder with water, water should be like warm or air temperature, do not use boiling water. Second, the water should be ice cold when left in a freezer so the Paracetamol would solidify at the bottom. Do not let freeze, 20-30 minutes in a freezer should be good.

1. yes. the less water the better, as up to 2 grams of apap can still dissolve in 200mls of cold water

2.it helps. i used to completely powder mine up with a metal weed grinder. much easier if you have capsules.

3.I give the mixture as good as a stir as possible - at least 30 seconds or more. If your co/codamol or co/dydramol has been well crushed into as fine as powder as possible, then a good stir with both a spoon and fork should ensure that as much codeine / dyhydrocodeine is dissolved in the water as possible. Mix it up, dont let it settle out

4. Ive kept solutions for no more than 2 or3 days max, i dont know any chemistry so i cant say how long a solution would stay stable. Quite a while id GUESS, provided you keep it in a cool dark place.

5. as soon as i finish stirring, and theres a uniform mix of cloudy pill stuff throughout the water, i immediately but gently pore the solution through the filter. Theres no need to let it settle before filtering - as i said you want it well mixed up so you should have cloudy water from all the undisssolved apap. As said, as soon as its all mixed up, gently pore the solution through the filter. The water will pass through the filter into the receptacle, while the filter will grab all the mushy wet undissolved apap. Be patient and let it filter by gravity and of course, DONT try and squeeze the last few drops of water out of the filter as it will let more apap into the solution.

at this point you should be left with a mankey wet filter full of mushy apap, and a clear solution of water and codeine. If its still a bit cloudy, there may be more apap left than one would like, so re filter untill the solution is clear.

As i said, you dont want to rely on the apap 'settling' out, you dont want anything to settle, you want to mix your water and tablets as well as possible and let the filter do the seperating. As soon as you first mix the tablets and water together, the codeine should instantly dissolve, rendering it invisable in the water. Once filtered, you shouldnt be able to see anything in yourcodeine solution, but dont worry - its in there!. A quick smell or taste should confirm this, as the codeine is even more bitter to the tongue than the apap.

6. No, but the colder the better. Refrigerated water should be cold enough. This is because apap does dissolve in water, just no where near as well and completely as codeine does. Apap does dissolve more readily in warm water, which is why the cooler the better.

No tabletop CWE will ever produce a 100% paracetamol free product, but by consistently performing the process properly you should be able to keep the unwanted contents at a totally safe minimum.

No offence Wills but check your method mate. You do not want to use warm water at any point during the process, nor should you need to freeze anything. Id really like to try and pick up on more of your spurious advice but its only 5.30am and im still on my first 100mg of 3fpm, first coffee and fag.

TO THE OP

We all have slighty different methods of doing this so have a look around bluelight to see how others E by CW....

apart from Wills above - ignore everything he says for now - he wllll have the right to reply and defend his somewhat barmy process. Codeine dissolves oxygen??!!! Since when did codeine start to metabolise on its own? So what if it did remove the oxygen (where it puts it in a sealed container is beyond me). If you were to hang onto the solution for a long time, the main issue would be the that the water will become stagnant and moldy - only a total lack of oxygen would slow the rot.

@Wills - i see your a relatively inexperienced poster mate - please dont take any of my coments personally. Youve put yourself out there to try and help the op, but as a harm reduction site you need to share watertight and accurate information, you obviously know your stuff to a certain degree, but one piece of bad advice can cause disaster if its hidden among truthful information

@Wills (again) - i think i understand your comment about the o2 - you mean if you leave the solution to long, some of the codeine will move from the liquid into any air pocket in the container.

I havnt checked the trutth in that, but i get your point now with my apology on its way in the mail
