A question was raised not too long ago as to how much acetaminophen is actually filtered out during a CWE. Before my experiment, I measured each pill and then subtracted the total weight by the amount of APAP and Hydrocodone to find out how much of it was made up of binders. I now have the remaining APAP dried and ready to be measured. The question is, will it all be APAP or will some of it be the binder? My theory is that the stuff left behind after a CWE is entirely APAP; I imagine the binders are completely water soluble. Can anyone confirm this?

Of course this also begs the question, if the remaining scum is not entirely APAP, how can I possibly account for the binder? My theory is that I can't. If this is true, my experiment has been foiled.

I suppose if we could someone how figure out if the binders are in fact not being dissolved into the water, then we could subtract accordingly.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not gonna do it for you as it is rather late but check out the inactive ingredients on google (by the sound of it shouldn't be too much of a task for somebody with the intellect to try and run an efficient experiment) and do a rough assumption on Percentage remaining by dividing them theoretically equally in amount as they probably take up so little of the overall percentage Of the ingredients that your test will still be credible, then check the water solubility of those individual inactive ingredients, run the numbers and you can have and educated guess at about roughly how much binder/filler will be left.

That is how I would go about it. Hope I've helped somewhat. Good luck and god speed intrinsic man!!

^ this :)

A fair amount of fillers/binders are likely to leak through I think, going by the evidence for using a micron filter when IVing pills - most filters used for CWEs will have a bigger pore size and I would not be surprised if some gets through although I do not know this for certain. Some ingredients may be water soluble too so best to look them up as c0nzor said.

Make sure you are using a good technique - APAP is slightly soluble (1g in 100mls cold water) so you need to use the minimum amount required, and also make sure it is as cold as possible. Choose your filter wisely, and be patient, never squeeze it! Some preparations containing titanium dioxide will always produce a milky filtrate, but most should give a clear solution.

Quickest way to account for inactives: Mass total pill, subtract mass of all inactive ingredients. Remaining figure is the mass of the binders / fillers in that pill. Divide this by the total mass for a mass %. This will be useful for after a CWE / evap.

Easiest way I've found: Find room temp, and subsequently the solubility of APAP into water at this temperature. This is the most APAP that will go into solution at a given volume. I use 50ml for an initial wash, as at the temperature I was working I was guaranteed that no more than 400mg of APAP would dissolve into this while allowing all 70mg to come into solution. I started with 14x 5/500's, and ended up with 440mg of material after 1 wash. I could have fit all of my opiate into 5ml, but that wouldn't dissolve the initial 14 pills fully so more is needed.

Sorry for the rambling, I will happily explain any part of this in better detail, I'm just a bit scatter-brained currently.. Hope this helps!
