I was reading the book "treasure island". In the book, a pirate overdoses alcohol and almost dies, and the doctor cuts his vein, so the pirate looses some blood(and thus, some alcohol gets out of his body) and that's how he saves him.
I never heard anyone doing this and I was just wondering if that's a good way to deal with alcohol or even other drugs o.d.

I'm going to close this. I can see it vaguely representing something along the lines of Harm Reduction, but seeing as how this is the 21st Century and that we've established that "bleeding" of patients is indeed not an effective medical treatment for the litany of things that it used to be used for. Definitely not a good way to deal with Alcohol poisoning or Drug Overdose.
