current music scene is embarrassing

The thing with commercially marketed music is that the big labels have the ability to create the market with advertising on mainstream media.

so blame it on the masses for being susceptible sheep: big lables create the market, the masses get reprogrammed and lap it up.

there are people who listen to what they get told to listen, and there are people who make up their mind what is good (to their ears) and search for music on their own.

it's up to people to discover, be discerning listeners and refine their tastes; if they dont, leave them to it.

(that can be said about anything else in life, not just music)

another vicious cycle of the labels feeding the masses and vice versa.

I disagree that 'the current music scene is embarassing'.

Having said that, I barely ever listen to the radio, and cant remember the last time i watched a music program on TV (FOXtel included). This is because i quite simply cant stand 99.9% of what i would hear if i did.

However, there are armies of young teenagers (teeny-boppers if u like) that would shoot me on sight for 'dissing' their favourite pop tracks. Allot of people thoroughly enjoy pop music and other random shit associated with the public music scene, and I fail to find it surprising that the industry has gone the way it is.

Come to think of it, if MTV and channel V did ditch 'pop' music and associated shit, what else would they have to play? What could they sell if they played nonstop hard or psy trance? I'd watch their channel, but there would be fuck all chance of me participating or spending money on any of thier stupid shams. The only people willing to spend that sort of time and effort are teenagers - and thus the MTV and Channel V producers say -

"fill my airtime with that cheap, commercial shit that the teeny boppers love so much, cos we gotta get our money from somewhere and no other group will spend so much time and money on our channel."

This said, I think they go a bit far playing RnB, I mean, they dont wanna scare off the tenny boppers do they??? :p - j/k

It should be illegal what they are playing.

If celebraties have a 'social responsibility' so should music labels.

at the rate this pop shit is going, there will be little teeny boppers (boys and girls) dressing up like sluts and the lads trying to be 'cool' and act like <3<3<3<3<3<3 Gz.

Tired of hearing the same shit being drummed out, women being portrayed as powerful ALL THE TIME, then women beign sluts, the guys just drive in cool cars, trying to look cool talking shit about how their woman looks hot, and how the room is to hot and take off clothes.

ok ok, some of the pop songs that come out are original and have good meaning behind them, but they can jam the rest of that shit where the sun don't shine.

bah, now i'm just rambling crap.

This is not a generation gap, this is commercialsation going over the drawn line.

Tell me, whats your flava .. united states of whatever ..

hey call me a weirdo but i reckon music these days is as good as it's ever been. electronically speaking this is the case without a doubt. i'm so glad just to have been born around 1980 so i have had the chance to be a part of this musical gen. and i'm not just talking about techno, mm actually talking more about hip hop. but really, i like all music. music means dancing.

/end meaningless rant

oh, actually, do have one more thing to say:

Without evil there can not be good
Without pop music there can be no good music
I say bring it on, it keeps the masses diverted

That kinda stuff pisses me off a little, i mean what's makes me or you any 'better' because we listen to a non-mainstream genre? We definately ain't any cooler either, there are some GEEKY ass mofo ravers out there. Also.... with pop music i got this to say in support of it, it's the only genre outside elctronic or hiphop for me i can find a new song i like in EVERY week.... purely because there' s so much of the stuff and it does cater to everyone's needs.... hence the term.... popular music.

^
no it doesn't cater for everyones needs. the stuff that comes out every week on the radio/tv is so cheesy i can't stand it. at least 90%+ is poorly made shit music with catchy melodys/lyrics which is made to sound easy on the ears. its crap, cant you understand that? and no im not saying im better coz i listen to underground music, its not their fault they dont like quality music and are sheep :D

/\
exactly!

Oh yeah and Evil Witch,
Chill out g ;)

There was no implication that ravers are any better... i don't even really go to raves these days, i head to bush doofs much more, so i am in no way defending ravers in this way at all. It doesn't make anyone a worse person for listening to pop, i just think it means there can actually be sub-cultures which aren't over run with commerciality. If everybody listen to techno you'd hear it so much you'd just become desensitised to it.

Hehehe you know not everything posted on bluelight has to be taken literally.

I think that good music doesn't catch you at first, it grows on you. Pop music is aimed to catch you straight away so it stays on the charts fro a while before the next new hit comes along.

peace

Personally, I think the top 40 hit its lowest point in 1992 when Achy Breaky Heart was #1.

It was already at it's lowest point long before that when groups like Bananarama were allowed to sing in public. 8) 8o

I dont see how the current music scene is embarassing, some of the track being bought out by lables such as nukleuz and tisy trax are pure class, i think its just a matter of opinion, but hard hosue and hard dance are they way of the future!

hahaha, i wasnt talking about scooter, i was talking about producers like paul glazby, guyver, james lawson, andy farely, nick sentience!

I know you weren't talking about Scooter.

I don't know how, but somehow I've managed to avoid having to listen to anything by Dj Sammy.

Another embarrasing singer/producer is Robbie Williams. IMO someone should cut out his voicebox, save him from further embarassment. =D :p

i don't mind some pop music, i don't give a fuck if it's pop, underground, cheap or whateva, if i like the music then i listen to it.

.

I tell you what really gets up my tree, stuopid fucking hi-nrg dance remixes of 80s tracks like anything dj sammy and the likes. its fucking gay and makes me wanna self mutilate myself.

Not only that but whats the go with punk pop? like avril lavigne, good charlotte and all that. I used to think good charlotte were the sickest band out but have u seen/heard their new single boys & girls or something? its a fucking embaressment. Im fucking embaressed i ever liked them with that disgusting display of a video clip / song.

And for my final rage, R and fucking B. If its not their sleazy lyrics that get ya goat, its their fucking mob of 1000 or so other "homeboys" in their videoclip. Sure im not totally against RnB, i can tolerate it to a certain degree but for fucks sake if i hear another 50 cent (Fity cent as the "homeboy" likes to be called) im gonna go on a raging massacre!

And thats my whine for the day .... thanks for tuning in :)

^^^^^ HAHAHAHAHA... yeah and dont matter who is singing the song its always going to have Dr Dre, Snoop Dog, Puff Daddy, Little Bow wow and some other random in it.

my beef is still new rock;)
