Curious benzo tolerance

In my head
Hi,

I have been wondering about the same thing for quite some time now, and I finally decided to seek some advice. It's not because it's hard to live with or anything (well actually it pisses me off), so I'm simply asking in the name of science.

I hardly ever take benzodiazepines. I'm prescribed 20mg of Nitrazepam every two days (10mg/day or 2 pills) but I almost never eat them. I asked for them because I had a period where I had a hard time fallin asleep, but that only lasted a short while and is long gone, so now I see no reason to eat them. I do, however, enjoy the benzo-rush a lot, and this is where it becomes weird.

The first time I ever took 2mg of Flunitrazepam I basically passed out while walking (and cracked a tooth!). That should tell you how effective it was on me then. That's about a year ago, but as mentioned I rarely eat benzo's (I don't think I have ever taken them more than a few times a month), but still it seems I have a huge tolerance to them. For instance, if I give my friend 2 2mg Rivotril (Clonazepam) (he's a HUGE guy) he gets really high, as does all of my other friends, but me on the other hand, I can eat 50mg of Nitrazepam and 30mg of Bromazepam (or maybe it was the other way around) and not feel anything.

And it's not just Clonazepam. 1mg of Alprazolam didn't touch me either. I know it's not alot, but I shouldn't have any tolerance. I have theorized that it may be because I have a very fast metabolism and have a hard time gaining weight, but it's been like that all my life and when I first started experimenting with benzo's I felt them perfectly well.

I'm not tolerant to alcohol either. I study medicine, particularly benzo's and opiates/opioids, so you can imagine how big a mystery this is to me.

And when I say my strange tolerance is pissing me off, I'm obviously joking, but you feel a little cheated when your friends, who do them more often than you and don't even get them legally (my fault I suppose) get twice as high from half the dose (or actually infinite times higher since they don't have the slighest effect on me, not even amnesia).

I hope you can cast some light on this thing, because I cannot make any sense of it.

PHP:
<?php
define("BZDP_HYPNOTIC_IVAL", 9*3600);
function take_nitrazepam($amount) {
  sleep($amount*BZDP_HYPNOTIC_IVAL);
  // wake_up(__NOW);
}
take_nitrazepam(2); // No idea why I wrote this
?>

So you abused/have been abusing your benzos and now you can't catch a buzz. Sounds like straight up tachyphylaxis to me.

There isn't much we can say here, other than some individuals just don't experience noticeable effects from many benzodiazepines (myself included.) The only effect I ever experience is drowsiness, never any euphoria or 'high' feeling.

sekio, I don't know if you read my post carefully and to the end, but the fact is I do know that abusing drugs result in tolerance if done often enough. That's why I made sure to point out that I hardly ever take benzo's, and also that the interval between each time I use benzo's haven't changed since the very beginning. If anything, I take them less often now.

dokomo, I understand that, but wouldn't my body chemistry have to had changed then? Or something wild like that... Because like I said in the beginning all benzo's worked very well on me, and I have never done been addicted to them (physically or psychologically; I get them every two days and many days go by where they just lay on my desk or in my drawer and I forget I ever got them), but for some reason at some point (not sure exactly when, but it's been a while, at least 6 months) they just stopped being effective. And I'm not talking about pills you buy in the streets, these are pills from an actual pharmacy.

But like you I never received any euphoria or high (or buzz, so no, the issue is not that I cannot 'catch a buzz' anymore) from benzo's either but that's fine with me, if hypnotics can put me to sleep they have done their job. I might aswell have asked about alcohol, another drug I have never been addicted to or taken several days in a row (but I do get drunk easily, however, even though alcohol is another GABA-agonist.)

hazejunk, I'm not sure why you suggested crack, but I have smoked crack before and I have absolutely no tolerance to that, or plain Cocaine, either. I don't like the rush very much, I think it is too powerful. A line of coke on the other hand is fine, as long as it's small and you don't get craving's at the end of the rush.

You might be experiencing WD soon or you might have some killer genetics that make you immune to it which is rare but some people just don't get WD it seems. If I had children and they wanted to get high, I would recommend they try heroine, with clean needles of course, before they fuck with benzos.

Hi Regenesis. I don't use needles, and I have also never had WD from benzos. It would be "cool" if I were immune to them. However, I am definitely not immune to opiate WD.
