Heroin crystalizes / gels in rig?

A friend of mine and I went in on a bag of powder dope recently. I've snorted a decent amount of it in the last few days and it definitely gets me high, but I'm new to the stuff so I don't have much experience to compare it to.

The first night we got it, the friend in question did a few shots of it and liked it a lot. The next morning, however, he prepped a shot in a well-lit area and noticed something was wrong. He says he heated it like he would any other shot and didn't overheat it, then sucked the water up through the cotton. Then the fluid in the rig (which started out mostly clear) started to precipitate and turn chunky with the chunks/gel floating in it, then completely turned into a pasty consistency and then turned hard with visible crystals. This apparently all happened over the course of a minute or two. He tried shooting it anyway and the needle clogged and he couldn't finish the shot.

I'm not asking you guys what it's cut with since I know there's no way to tell for sure. But I am wondering if anyone has gotten H like this before and if there is a way to circumvent the hardening, or if anyone knows if there's potential danger in shooting or otherwise taking dope like this. I searched but couldn't turn up anything that was very similar to this situation. The powder is a light tan color with little dark specks throughout it.

No way to tell what it's cut without a lab testing it, I don't know of any common H cuts that gel up though. I wouldn't want to shoot something that gels, it's most likely gelling in your friends veins as well, probably not the healthiest thing to be shooting... This is most likely going to be closed because no one can tell you, via internet, what's in you H.

Like I said, know you guys can't tell me what's in it. I'm just asking on my buddy's behalf if anyone has experience with junk that hardens like this and what they did with it.

or just stick to snorting it

or try cooking it for longer/shorter

I have gotten coke once that "cyrstalized" like that in the rig, even worse when blood touched it. It would also drip out of the tip of the syringe while it was gelling up, without pushing the plunger. I tried shooting it anyway and it wouldnt work and the whole time i was trin to hit a vein it was dripping out of the needle under my skin...it's def some kind of bad cut.

dont shoot that dope.... doesn't sound like a proper cut, and god knows whats going on in your friends body......

Never seen anything that turned into a gel, but I have seen dope that precipitates. It shouldn't do that.

Since we don't know what it is, and it's a wise bet to assume whatever causing that is not beneficial to one's health, the best advice here is to say, "do not inject it." Snort what's left and find a new batch.

Would "your friend" - *wink wink* ... scrape crud off the pavement and dump it into his engine through the oil fill hole? I didn't think so ... then why in the name of FUCK would you even think that it was a good idea to shoot something that was crystallizing / gelling up in the syringe?

^ chill at least he's asking about it and not just saying "ahh, whatever it gels so what? i'll still shoot it".. but OP no, it's not safe to IV something that gels.. i would go with what phrozen said.. snort the rest. Don't put gel in your veins.

Have never seen this with herion....
But, I have had amphetamine that has!! The gear would disolve down just fine untill it was drawn up into the rig, then it would begin to crystalize blocking the fit, making it imposiable to shoot.. (damm that frustrating!)
The only thing that helped it was running the rig under HOT water which breifly brought it back to liquid so you can empty the rig into a spoon and just eat the friggen shit.. Damm

So he ended up snorting the rest, but before he did, he experimented a little. Apparently, when he drew it into the rig without heat (just vigorous stirring), it still had some precipitants visible but he did half a shot anyway and said it worked really well. He left the other half in the rig for half an hour before checking on it, and by then it had hardened/crystalized.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm not a big fan of his needle habit because he really isn't that cautious (incidents like this, not bothering with micron filtering, reusing cotton and rigs, etc) and won't listen to me when I suggest he could be a little safer :/

I've only tried buying on the street once here, in the Downtown Eastside. The same buddy got sold a bag of ground up Tylenol or something, and I got two MS Contin 100s ;D

I would say it sounds like y'all got got, but if you've snorted it and it's legit I don't really know what to think. I've never really gotten dope that mixes up clear, it's usually anywhere from light yellow to chocolate milk brown. But no, I've never had any gear that gels up. It must be some kind of funky cut, but I obviously wouldn't shoot it. If he insists on banging it, perhaps he could cook it up longer than usual to help everything dissolve? Really I wouldn't even mess with the stuff.

Sorry for raising this post from the dead, but I've been having the exact same problem. I also live in BC...about an hour outside of Vancouver though, so I prefer to buy my shit locally if I can. Only problem is, every single time I've bought it locally, it gels up bad. It dissolves when I cook it, but if I leave it in the rig for any longer than a minute or so, it turns into one big murky, gelled up mass which is completely unshootable.

The only problem is every local source I have gets pretty much the same product, so I've had no choice but to cook and shoot it before it precipitates. It doesn't seem to gel up as bad if I use a bunch of water, so I'm hoping it doesn't completely precipitate inside my veins. I've been shooting it pretty constantly for the past few months or so and haven't really noticed any negative side effects (other than those from addiction, of course), but I'm still not sure if I'm doing any damage.

I had a good source in the DTES, the stuff would always dissolve perfectly with no heat. All I had to do was stir it and I was good to go. Unfortunately, the product I've got from them the past few times has been complete shit, way less potent AND it gels up just as bad as the stuff I get locally.

What do I do? No matter where I get it from, it always precipitates inside the rig, and I’ve tried at least 6 or 7 different source. I’ve tried ascorbic acid as well, but still no luck. Is there any other way to get this stuff to dissolve properly (and stay dissolved)? Am I just completely fucked?
