Coke is sometimes cut with a chemical called Procaine, or more commonly called "Novocaine."
Novocaine, was developed in 1905 to have the anaesthetic effects of cocaine without the 'undesirable effects.'
Dentist use Novocaine (they once used cocaine), so it is relatively common, and low cost (compared with coke).
Why cut with Novocaine? Since people will test the strength of coke by rubbing it on there gums, Novocaine being a local anaesthetic will numb lips and face like the real stuff, but not be as costly to the supplier.
The problem (other than being cut), is that Novocaine is deliquescent, meaning that it absorbs water from the air. If this is the case, you have perpetual "rocky road."
You could purify it by free-basing etc., or by recrystalisation (which results in high purity coke), which i may post how to do in the future if there is any interest.
Hope this info helps explain a few things.
