cross tolerance

Hello all. I am wondering if anyone has experience this situation before. My DOC is oxy (yes im back on it again) For a week i ran out and obtained some hydrocodone 5/ apap 325. I used the generic ratio of 5mg oc= 7.5 hydro for cross tolerance. My Normal dose is 120mg of oxy and I found that i could take 100-120 mg of hydro and be floored. Now that i have my script for oxy filled i thought that maybe my tolerance had dropped and i tried to take 70mg's and what i found was disappointing. it took 120 mg's of oxy to get where i needed to be. anyone else experience this odd cross tolerance issue of oxy=hydro?

It's no surprise that there is a cross tolerance between these two.

you say 5mg OC=7.5mg hydro... i think its the other way around.. i presume you're talking about hydrocodone not hydromorphone

no 5mg oxy equals 7.5 hydrocodone roughly

umm taking high amounts of any opiate is going to raise your tolerance. If the opiate is a full mu-opioid agonist, then it will raise your tolerance if taking pretty equal doses. How you don't realize this is beyond me.

Don't really think its odd. My understanding about cross tolerance is that the amount of "substitute" opiate dosage can be lower, to achieve the same effect of the initial opiate. As a result of cross tolerance, you would have been able to take a MUCH lower dose of hydro., to achieve the desired affect, compared to the 120mg of Oxy.
