Hey im wondering if there is some sort of cross tolerance between benzos and nonbenzos. I used the search and didnt find anything so I apologize in advance CH if this has already been discussed.

The reason I ask is I was recently taking temazepam(restoril) for insomnia, then switched to lunesta(nonbenzo). I know lunesta isnt supposed to be as addicting blah blah blah but the reason I switched was because I did not want a benzo dependency issue to begin with. Will my benzo tolerance cross over at all to my lunesta? I know they have similar effects but are chemically distant cousins. So far the lunesta doesnt appear to be doing shit(4mg so far, about to pop another). Any input would greatly help me decide what sleeping medications I should/can use and if my tolerance will cross over. Thanks bl'ers

Yeah, there should be a great deal of cross tolerance.

I would avoid taking drugs like Lunesta, and try something like Atarax for insomnia so you don't have to take Restoril (temazepam) every day. Also, without taking Lunesta, your tolerance to temazepam should be low enough for it to work fine when you need it to. :)

Perfect! Nailed it CH, thanks. I'm on a week supply of lunesta right now so ill probably go back to the doc and see what she says. I used to take seroquel for a very long time, worked like a charm, then I got akathisia:(

You can close this now if you want, but any additional info/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all
