crohn's disease/Inflammatory Bowel and psychedlics

I have a friend who has Crohn's disease and she is interested in trying 2cb but understandably worried about setting off her condition and becoming sick. She takes good care of herself and is otherwise healthy.

Does anyone have any advice about this? She's on medication, just one type, I can find out the name of it and post here in case anyone knows if there is a contraindication. It might be a corticosteroid?

Thanks for any advice or experiences about this condition and psychedelics.

Corticosteriods should not interact, but 2C-B is a serotonin receptor-effecting drug so it may cause nausea, bloating, gut discomfort etc. - even in people not afflicted with Crohn's. I would be careful.
 
I also have Crohn's Disease, I have found that 2C-I gives me a minimal level of stomach discomfort during the come down. Eating a small meal/snack helps, cannabis helps.

The most modern of pharmaceutical treatments for Crohn's Disease focus on inflammation caused by Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha; I have an article by the title of "Serotonin 5-HT2A Receptor Activation Suppresses Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha-Induced Inflammation with Extraordinary Potency." The study looks at DOI, LSD, and Psilocin, finding that all three reduce inflammation significantly. I will send you the article if you want.

Corticosteroids do not interact at all with psychedelics (at least none I'm aware of), I am currently on a prednisone regimen and currently tripping on 4-HO-MET.
 
thanks wise owl, could you send me that article? Do you think tryptamines and phenethylamines are pretty much medically the same in terms of their affecting someone with Chrohn's disease? I mean, would either be ok at a low dose?

It's hard to say what the difference would be between trpyts and phens, I just assume that in general a serotonin agonist is anti-inflammatory.
 
I've also read that article. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis (another auto-immune inflammatory disease that works via the TNF-alpha route), and nearly all psychedelics temporarily abate symptoms. DOI especially. If it has any effect on the Crohn's, it would be beneficial, in my estimation.

try telling your IBD doctor about this stuff and see what happens.... mine wouldn't even approve of my medical marijuana use 8o
 
It's not me, it's my friend. She has a pretty good doctor right now I think. The last guy was over-medicating her and she was having episodes frequently. This new doctor has her on like one pill a day and she is doing much better, thankfully :)
 
Hey, so I found out about her medication and it's something called Mercaptopurine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercaptopurine

Wiki says it's an immunosuppressive drug. Does this set off any alarm bells with anyone in terms of being counter-indicated or possibly causing a bad reaction with either 2c family of compounds or 4-substituted tryptamines?

I am definitely ruling out 2ct-x due to the intense nausea that those can cause. Ayahuasca for the same reason.
 
This is very interesting to me. I had a friend in hs with chron's and he used to pop ecstasy very frequently. I wonder if he was self medicating his condition by seretonin agonist related inflammation abatement. Last I heard of him he was doing ok, at least ostensibly. I feel bad for anyone with chron's sounds awful..
 
My only first hand knowledge of Mercaptopurine (6MP) is that I am highly allergic. But, as far as I can tell there should not be any harmful interactions between 6MP and psychedelics.
 
just a reminder that chron's disease is still not a fully understood disease and currently there is no perfect treatment for it (because the exact cause is not known, at least afaik). corticosteroids and immunosupresants are imprecise tools in dealing with it.
as such, your friend should proceed with caution when trying any new substance out. there is just no telling what the effects will be, though at the normal dose and frequencies i doubt there will be serious consequences. just avoid plugging.
tryptamines would be what i would go for in this situation. they seem to be milder on the body, and are shorter lived (so if they do end up causing trouble, its shorter).

Agreed! Trypts & Phens work on the same part of the brain, but Trypts seem to have half (on average) the duration of Phens. Therefore, any unpleasant side effects should, one would assume, last half as long. Nonetheless, I'd also advise your friend, Champ, takes a non-active, extremely small dose of whatever she wants to try first, on a seperate occassion, to see if it excacerbates or decreases her symptoms.

Someone I know well is on mercaptopurine and has tried a variety of tryps, phens and designer stims/empathogens with no noted interactions. Not saying its safe since that's a sample size of 1.
