The United States Govt. would never knowingly criminalize a chemical substance that had some sort of beneficial or therapeutic value for us.....i mean, after all.....it's US that is MOST important to them.

It's illegal because it's fun.
It's more fun than tobacco or alcohol. Tobacco and alcohol give a lot of money to the government. So if anything is more fun than tobacco or alcohol, it will eventually be made illegal.
