    Welcome Guest!

Cow Palace rave 1 death 11 hospitalized

Bring water with you? Say they do let you back into the crowd, if you're in the front, you won't want to leave either. Last time I was at a show where I was all the way in the front and wouldn't leave for anything in the world, I had water with me. Drank all over the course of the show, and it was awesome.

well say you've just got to the dance floor, and didn't bring any with you...then where do you stand? i mean, smarter people will definitely take water/safety vs being the in the front BUT there is always a small group of people that don't make the right decisions...its not as easy as you think.

it sucks that a few idiots ruin it for everyone else. other then the deaths/arrests, the music was mind blowing.

Dumb people will always be dumb, regardless of what drugs let are taking. I've been to several venues that provide free water. They just have a big jug of water and hard plastic cups next to it. I'm not a huge germophobe so it never bothered me to use the cups.

I'd assume there are two primary reasons they don't allow you to bring your own water bottles:

A) they'd lose money on their own sales.
B) some people would put alcohol in their bottles so it becomes a security/MIP issue. (Although I honestly think it's a stupid reason considering the amount of drugs that get smuggled into these events. 1 pill is easier to hide than one drink haha)

At some of the events I've been to in Portland, they have water coolers that someone is constantly refilling with big jugs of water so once you've bought your bottle for $2, then you can refill it for free! It's fantastic!

In Seattle, many events will let you bring in either sealed water bottles or empty water bottles. And I've never been to an event that I paid more than $2 for water. Plus, the tap water in the city is very drinkable so a quick run to the bathroom whenever your bottle is empty is very doable.

Yeah I can totally understand the sealed/empty bottles thing, that makes a lot of sense to allow it that way.

Unfortunately, not all promoters and companies see it the same way which is why tragic things like this happen. It's unfortunate to see something like this happen all to put a few extra dollars in someone's pocket. Water is a necessity of life, it should be free. At $15-$30 a rave ticket, I think they can suck it up with the water thing. Just my 2cents.

Were there confirmed bad pills going around or was the cause of the deaths/hospitalizations just heat?

yeah, i just bought 1 water bottle and drank sink all night.
regarding the death, they say that it was not because of tainted drugs...just a plain overdose but who knows...
A news reporter on a new website (ill try to refind the link) stated the police also caught a man running around with a syringe stabbing people.

try $70-$80 a ticket. i was thinking of going too but all my friends backed out and someone told me that this event has been very poorly managed in the past and that i wasnt missing out. i guess they were right.. sounds like an awful time.

kinda sounds like it was an overheating issue to me but who knows. really sad..

even armin van buuren said in his twitter that the event was "a little warm" , it must have been cooking in there.

I have been to events where the ceiling began to drip because it was so hot, but it was bareable because you were able to freely come and go from the dance floor to get water ($5 unfortunately)- is it true that they actually closed the exits from the dance floor? If so that was just an accident waiting to happen...

It would really be nice if they would :

1.Put an 18+ Cap on all Skillz, Insomniac, and GoVentures massives
2.Provided a fixed price for water under $3
3.Put an official cap on the number of attendees to prevent over-crowding
4.Require all attendees to carry a form of ID at all times for security purposes

This is what has to happen if the Rave scene is to survive negative media and powerful legislation. I rapidly see a lifestyle that is become more mainstream and much more crowded. Eventually it will receive more attention then it wanted and demonized by congress.

The promoters are greedy and reaping profits off these events. I really dont want to see them come to an end, but money does evil things to people..Right now I only seem Insomniac coming out with there version of a credit card:

"The Insomniac Card, allowing you to beat lines by prepaying for everything you will need for a night of raving. When the nights up, you can keep the money on your card for the next rave you attend"

My friend got one and when she tried to get them money loaded off it at the end of the night they wouldnt let her. These promoters just want money and are trying to create a steady flow of revenue off exploiting what once use to be a pure thing.

Now its just another Industry. The Industry of Subversion and Distracting our youth.

The other thing I see is promoters and organizers denying that drugs are an inevitability at these shows. Making it hard for people to get air, water or an area to chill out just to try and reduce the number of people using drugs at these events is ONLY going to cause harm to those who do. And face it, a lot of people do. These events are where people go to do their drugs of choice, and unless you give everyone a full cavity search they're gonna get in and they're going to do them.

It's just like anything else. You have to assume that people are going to be doing drugs at these events and focus on harm reduction rather than protecting your revenue/keeping drugs out.

As for the death, now they're saying it was an overdose. Hmmm...

And I heard that thing about the syringe too. It was in one of the videos. That's just plain scary!

was at this show. heat and humidity were unacceptable. evidently they had undercovers all over the place.

on the outside of the arena they had inclined hallways that were extremely slippery.... such a hazard.

i wont ever go to a rave at the cow palace again, not good at all.

@royskopp- i was at an event that had those sort of cards, and while it is clearly a money grabbing scam it was really sweet to just give them a card and not have to fumble with cash. it went well with the otherworldliness of the event. :)

I cannot stress how deeply this is bothering me and I don't know why. I didn't attend this party, I had no connections to anybody affected by what happened. I suppose I'm just upset to see something that I really love becoming a scary and unfortunate place. It's horrible to see shit like this in the news and it makes the rave scene look worse than it is.

From reading several news articles and another forum, there are many different factors in this situation and I believe there are also possible details being left out. I constantly am trying to keep myself informed on pills that might be coming to my area for this exact reason. Obviously doing drugs is the safest way to go, but the next best thing you can do is research until your eyes are about to bleed.

As far as what I have read about the venue and event itself, total bullshit. I cannot stand massives because of shit like poor ventilation and just piss poor service in general. Although perhaps my opinion of massives is biased due to my first party being a fiasco.

As sad as this is and my condolences go out to the families dealing with their loss and hospitalization of family members, I truly hope this opens the eyes of people to educate themselves to prevent things like this from happening again.

Lol yea i guess, On this side of the country this type of thing isn't run by gangs....

You have a bunch of ravers/psytrance kids and then you have some thuggish looking gangsta people walking around trying to sell drugs....

I could buy some drugs from some bad ass hippie giving me blotter laid in the hundreds of micrograms or i could buy some sketchy beans or something from some thugish lookin gangsta that stands out more than any undercover in the building.

I don't like to consider myself racist, im dating a girl who is half black, so that has to say somthing. Just about everyone i have ever known that has had anything fucked up go down in a drug deal happened when they were dealing with thugish black people. One guy got his head blown off, a friend of mine was robbed at gunpoint at 3pm in his own house, friend had more molly jacked than i care to give numbers for but it was a lot, someone else was implicated in a murder investigation.

These people are only there because they have found people who will buy from them. If the collective group decided just to not buy from these people it wouldn't happen.

This kind of shit never seems to happen when your dealing with people who associate more with the hippie/raver/psytrance/burner crowds..... It happens because people allow it to happen, get people to stop buying from people who are not part of this scene at all....

I've had bunk shit from hippies at raves, and bomb rolls from thuggish looking black people. I look like a thuggish black person sometimes, But I'm really not. I don't deal but i've given surplus pills to people at raves who needed them. Didn't fuck them over or jack up the price.

A smart person would get there shit b4 they even go because you can be fucked over by anyone no matter what they look like.

On topic, POP was crazy. First time going up 2 norcal for a rave and that shit was packed with UC's and too many ppl in that hot ass room. It was good though just never seen so many undercover cops lol

I put $200 on one for the entire night @ BW. I was like 1 dollar short on the card of what I needed to buy 2 waters rather than one at the END of the night when they're putting shit away and she didn't want to sell it to me even with 2 extra dollars cash. Straight up money grabbing bullshit, you couldn't buy anything with cash had to load them up and most people leave a few bucks or can't be bothered cashing them out. Not to mention all the thieves that were around trying to grab them.

Out doors is how all events should be held, out in the open air open field. Such as cream fields, mystery land, cochella, and ultra. , and those are REAL massives with 70,000 + people. Ultra music fest won Electronic music festival of the year for sure for 2010 with more then 70,000 attendies , didn't hear any complaints about it being hot because it is an out doors event , its more free and open. The the lines for water where long but didn't bother much. Craming people in a hall way is a receipe for disaster. This pop event should be canceled for next year due to safty issues
