couple questions about music

Dude, OLD radiohead? I think Everything In Its Right Place is a little more psychedelic than OK Computer. Just IMHO though, haha.

I would recommend Kid A through Hail to the Thief era Radiohead for tripping.

Ok computer is psychedelic in a different way for me, expressing lots of emotion and i just like the sounds. Kid a is great as well for different reasons. I see what you mean though lol not that I don't like their newer stuff. When I first started tripping I was really into Kid A, still trips me out when i listen to it. I also really like the bends/pablo honey. But yes, Everything In Its Right Place is very psychedelic :D

I mostly enjoy trip-hop and ambient while tripping, but I mix it up. Some of my tripping favorites include:

(old) Modest Mouse
Kid Cudi
Nujabes
Boards of Canada
Flying Lotus
Blockhead
Pretty Lights
Emancipator
Blue Sky Black Death
Shpongle

I've been looking for something similar to old Modest Mouse (LCW, Long Drive, M&A) for a long, long time and I just don't think it exists. Those guys were truly one of a kind.

Flying Lotus is fantastic. Fucking earth shatteringly weird stuff while sober even!

No I agree with you that OKC is very psychedelic in its own right, it's just not as "obvious" as something like Kid A, haha. OKC used to be my favorite album by Radiohead for a long time... now, I find post OKC Radiohead to be the most innovative, important, and outstanding Radiohead - but I still have a special place in my heart for The Bends and OKC (which was the album of my high school years - you know, THAT album that you always went back to after all your shitty high school drama). Climbing Up The Walls, Airbag, and Subterranean Homesick Alien are 3 of the tracks that I almost always listen to while tripping.

Pablo Honey, never could get into that. There are a few gems on it (You in particular is fantastic) but some songs are mind numbingly bad/cheesy for me (anyone can play guitar?) but no disrespect we all like different shiz :P

When I smoke DMT it's always to MGMT

fucking christ...ive gotta try this. bet "Electric Feel" is incredible when tripping. brilliant song. plus everything kinda goes liquidy underwater electric for me at the start of the trip, can imagine it being absolute amazing

My all time fav's are
King Crimson---blows my mind every time-father of ALL psychedelic music if you ask me :)
Dead Can Dance
Sigur Rios
The Grails
God Speed You Black Emperor
Califone
And most Eastern Instrumental

Five year ago I would have said that the best music for tripping is electronica:

Aphex twin
Shpongle
Hallucinogen
1200 mics
Infected Mushroom
Kettel

etc

But nowadays I would say jazz:
Lee morgan- search for the new land
John coltrane- Africa. Ole. The impulse records really
Herbie Hancock- every thin he did from 1970 to 1975
Frank Zappa- everything from 69 to 1979
Miles davis-59 to 69

Enjoy

cheers

In my last trip was totally obsessed with Brian Eno - Instrumental album with FLAC quality simply amazing the details and deepeness, the sound of the universe in my desktop. :) Also a dutch electronic artists called Legowelt specialized in analogic synthesizers. It was amazing to hear the warmness of analogic sound, very recommended specially older albums (2002-2005). Download his last album for free in his website

ok computer is premium.

i saw god multiple times in multiple different forms listening to ok computer on loop during a 0.5g dxm trip. it even spoke to me. it said, "from the depths of your location reap your own reward." not sure what it means.

if anyone hasnt heard the olivia tremor control they're worth checking out the have a real indie/psychedellic feel kinda like modest mouse but trippier hard to explain its kinda like the beatles meet 90s music...they're on the same lable as neutral milk hotel but i think they're better...and good shot on the animal collective i havent listened to them in a while i also like explosions in the sky if you've heard them

Oh my god while I agree OTC is trippier... there is no way dusk at cubist castle even comes close to the seminal masterpiece that is in the aeroplane over the sea IMO

but it is very beatlesesque acidy sounding music. I don't really think it sounds anything like Modest Mouse or the 90s though? Seems pretty emulative of the 60s

so i was wondering what kind of music everyone on here likes to trip to. my favorites are the beatles pink floyd modest mouse grateful dead phish the doors gov't mule moe. some donovan...of course this all depends on the mood if im really lookin to blast off go with the beatles or floyd maybe a little mouse but for a feel good jammy happy time i like phish moe. donovan and mouse...the dead and gov't mule do a good job of fitting in well for either mood so does modest mouse. my other question is based on the music i have mentioned does anyone have any sugestions for any other music i would like? this isnt only music i like while tripping its also just music i enjoy while sober.

thank you everyone

based on your preference for modest mouse (that's the only one that you listed that i really LOVE. i also met the [new] drummer's parents on a cruise...i'm hoping they can get me into a concert if they ever come close)

anyways, based on modest mouse...i have to recommend

BUILT TO SPILL

PINBACK

MINUS THE BEAR

someone else mentioned MATISYAHU

and i'll throw 311 out there

does anyone like the CD - MGMT congratulations? i just bought it, and i don't dig it that much. maybe it's better if i'm tripping? :)

If you check out built to spill I recommend Keep It Like A Secret. I debated posting a song from that album actually lol

with otc the songs holiday surprise, hideaway, sylvan screen, and hilltop procession have a real 90s feel to me atleast paranormal echoes has a super pink floyd feel to it most of there other stuff is really beatlesish but all of it is very unique in its own right...and built to spill is good i forgot about them too thank man

++ Respect for the Opeth recommendation! Also, can't go wrong with Pink floyd. If i want to go far and beyond sometimes I put on some Spastic Ink or David Valdes =]

I think Primus is fantastic while tripping, the older albums. But many find them too "weird" or whatever.

Frank Zappa and King Crimson have been mentioned, they're great too. Zappa's One Size Fits All album + mushrooms was a great experience for me.

Tool is great too, and Shpongle, or maybe some Dubstep tracks.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Coil. Most of their stuff is unbelievable for tripping. Time Machines in particular makes me trip without taking anything! Once I had to turn it off, for the combination of 4-AcO-DMT with their sound was too overwhelming. Loreena McKennitt made it stop, thankfully :) She is blissfully soothing for those harder moments
