    Welcome Guest!

Could someone have high oxytocin levels?

Ummm ... sure? I'm sure everyone doesn't have the EXACT SAME amount. Some people have more and some have less. Seems pretty simple.

I've always wondered if higher or lower oxytocin levels could influence how well MDMA works for someone at causing the "loved up" feeling. I'm a very cuddly, huggy person to begin with. MDMA (when it works) brings me out of my shell and I hug, interact, and love everyone to a degree I don't really see in many other people.

yeah.. I always felt like I might or something when I read about oxytocin. I've always been very loving, and I always love touching too. Like I always feel everything and love just being close with people. And I'm a very forgiving person, and can't help it. Like something I'll be really mad about and I'll tell myself in my mind I'll never get over it, and then the next day I don't even care about it. I also empathize with people a lot, sometimes I wish I could just not care, but I can't.

Is it all genetics? Or does how you're raised have to do with it too?

there are studies that have found that various levels of chemicals in the brain are influenced by both nurture AND nature. Natural happiness range, for example (your "hedonic setpoint"), is defined at birth, but your outlook can have a strong influence on your happiness as well.

Lactating moms and their babies.

Actually, the levels start going up while the baby is still in the womb. High amounts of oxytocin signal the uterus to begin contractions which is responsible for child-birth. Induced births are generally done with IV oxytocin.

This is gold!! Thanks for posting this!! I wish I had known about this for my college thesis :D

Maybe it's the E in me man but I'm just happy to be helping and posting in the ecstasy board again :)

interesting.. I know I had heard of that disease before.

I know I will find myself being comfortable telling random people I love them... but of course it's nothing like a disease or anything.

I read somewhere that increased endorphin levels lowers serotonin... so would the reverse be true?
If one didn't produce normal amounts of endorphins would one be more likely to stimulate the 5ht-1 serotonin receptor or whatever that releases oxytocin?

What a terrible life to live.. to love and trust everyone and know that they love and trust you. Doesn't sound like a disorder -- sounds like what SHOULD be the norm. If we all trusted and loved one another, everything would be okay. This would require a world not based on darwinian evolution, however.

It only works if everyone has it....

You have a 7 year old that trust everyone in the world. Pedo goes up to child and says "i have puppies and candy".... and the kid just says "I love you" and follows....

Its a disorder that could lead to problems....

How easy is it to lie to and manipulate someone who has complete trust in you, esspeically when you don't know them at all...

Oh, I agree. I'm saying everyone should have it -- and not just all humans. All animals.

yeah.. at first I thought, oh that sounds kinda cool, but did you read the part that she also has developmental problems? It's not that she's just a normal person besides trusting everyone, There's like psychological and physical problems too.

but I mean, yes how amazing would it be if everyone had this type of "disorder" without the other side effects... what a different world and life we would have!
