So I've been in the hospital. At first they were giving me 1mg iv Dilaudid every 3 hrs, which was alright would of liked more of course... anyways they switched me to 2mg pill PO which did nothing... the Doctor not wanting me to get hooked thought this was enough it wasn't so I then started shooting them. (dumb I know but whatever). Anyways my vein hurts really bad and I feel like shit after shooting the last pill I think it might be cotton fever, but im not shaking at all just have a 100.8 fever, not too bad I know. Any input?

Shooting pills without a micron filter or something similiar is very ill advised because of all the fillers in them. They're not designed to be IVed.
Doesn't sound like cotton fever... trust me you'd be in a world of hell. Sounds like you are IVing incorrectly or missed a shot.

Cotton fever usually results from desperately trying to extract drugs out of old cotton filters, it is caused when you inject bacteria or toxins they produce.

Dilaudids should just be lactose, hydromorphone, a little binder and color - all water soluble. They are one of the "better" pills to IV. So if you get a bad reaction after IVing it is probably caused from contamination, a mild OD, something in the water, or non-sterile pills.

I know I didn't miss. I know I should use a micron filter and I did when I was at home, but supplys while in the hospital are slim. They are discharging me in the morning. My vein is killing me tho. Intense pain going down my arm do you think I should tell the nurse? Will they be able to tell I was shooting up pills? If it got really bad and they cut open my arm would it show signs? Like would gunk be stuck in there? Btw I'm using sterlie water and fresh rig and what not. Scrubbed my hands with alchol whipe b4 I toched the pill it went str8 from the blister packet to my body pretty much

They could probably tell, they are nurses after all... it's doubtful they'll cut your arm open though! Maybe you were allergic to the color compounds in the pill, or the lactose.

If you tell them, they'll probably not like it... in general the staff don't like it when patients self-inject their medicine they are prescribed to take orally. But they will do their best to treat you.

Well, Shit. Lesson learned I guess. If it still hurts really bad in a day or so ill go back and say I think its from the iv I had in my arm, and pray for the best. I have chronic pancreatitis and IBD which causes me a lot of abdominal pain, so If I got labeled as a "Drug Seeker" I would prolly never get pain meds again. I'll let you guys know what happens in the fourth coming days, as I'm always curious to the end result of peoples decisions.

Since you're already in the hospital, they could likely think you have some type of infection. Like Sekio said, this would be hard to conceal especially if it's turned into an abscess. I don't see them discharging you tomorrow if you are running a fever or it gets any higher. It would be so easy to nip it in the bud right now but I understand it's awkward. Hope you can get some antibiotics. What are you in for anyway?

edit, Ok I just saw the pancreatitis. How's the fever now? Ask them for some ice water and you can put it in a washcloth for ice pack

I am with Sekio that doesn't sound like cotton fever. The pain in your arm is weird and combined with fever is a little puzzling. Why are you in the hospital? Something is just not adding up. An allergic reaction wouldn't produce a fever. Where did you get the water used for the shot?

Hospital are nasty places. I assume you used your patient bathroom?

Such a shit situation. Odds are you will be fine no medical help necessary but there is that chance.

The fever may not have a thing to do with you injecting...you are in the hospital. Is the area where you are hurting near where they had an IV in place? It is very common to have an IV become infected and/or many other issues. If it is near where your IV was at then I would probably tell them. Unless you have very obvious track marks then they will assume it is from the IV site. (Telling you this as a nurse for very long time).

I've actually been in here over a week, I had non-stop vomiting for like 5 days and I got really dehydrated. They did a scope and I had a bunch of Lesions down my esophagus and into my stomach.. The fever is gone now btw. maybe it just hurts so bad cause I did shoot up quite a few times into the same vein, over the past couple days just didn't have pain till earlier today. I got the water from one of their syringues they use. And yea miss its in the same spot pretty much I have that one really good vein down from my bicep so they drew blood a bunch there to.

well I told the nurse as the pain is getting worse and my hand and fingers are kind of numb almost like they are getting stabbed by a bunch of needles. He said that's not something that happens.. I don't think he believed me.

Hey bro I have a ton of experience in this subject matter, more so then probably anyone. I'm actually still currently in the hospital. I was taking the dilaudid and backloading it into syringes and shooting it straight up into my central lines and what not too. However, when I unluckily caught sepsis and there wasn't any good reason for me to...these doctors here were REALLY smart. They knew what was up and nothing I could say or do would convince them otherwise. In fact...out of mandatory protocol the nurses had to call the police on me and I was searched, and they found syringes in my backpack and spoons and shit. Luckily I didn't have any other drugs on me and the syringes were non-needle syringes and I had them because I was on home IV antibiotics and so I had enough excuses to get out of trouble with the law because I had an excuse to have them and I made up good excuses for why I still had them on me. That didn't save me from the doctors and nurses though. Even though I was able to bullshit the police, that wasn't even remotely possible with my doctors. From then on he had the nurses search me and everything around me constantly...that didn't stop me though from being a master of hiding things by doing things like taking the wall panel off behind my bed and taping syringes to the inside of it...<_<...yeah...I was bad...real bad...my doctors were geniuses though they just had like intuition or something and just figured I might still be finding a way to shoot up...and of course my doctor couldn't just abruptly stop giving me pain medication that I'd been on forever and had become habituated to so he and the team figured out a way to prevent me from ever shooting it again. First they tried making the nurses watch me swollow the pill, that was easy for me to beat by being skillful with a flick of the tongue and hiding the pill where no one could see it even when they told me to open my mouth and lift up my tongue and all that good stuff. So then the doctors just felt like that might not be enough...get this...from then on the doctor wrote an order for my pill to be crushed in front of a witness, then mixed with orange juice and stirred until it was completely dissolved at which point 2 nurses watched me take the medication. Pretty impossible to hold liquid in your mouth and open it and hide it anywhere...besides it wouldn't be too smart to mix saliva and that much orange juice in my mouth then spit it back into a syringe and shoot it up...alas...I was defeated...

LOL! Damn, that sucks, bro. I can't believe they went that far as to crush up your pills and put 'em in OJ. Oh, well. I guess it's better than nothing. You didn't get caught shooting up after they initially caught on, did you?
OP, Idk what I would do in your situation. Is there an abscess or any swelling? If not, I probably wouldn't tell the nurse. Then again, you could've contracted something nasty.
I've had cotton fever before, two times actually. & Never did I shake from it. I just got a really bad headache, and wound up falling asleep.

Why would they have water in a syringe? Maybe it was something else and that's what is causing the reaction.

No they never did; but I still managed to con a couple of nurses into risking their jobs to not crush the pill up and just pretend to...not quiet sure how I managed that one but I did a few times. Oh I forgot to mention that they eventually also removed all of my lines because I technically had no reason to have any...alas...still didn't stop my addicted ass...I wound up over a period of a few days scrounging one piece at a time for a full IV kit and wound up finally getting everything I needed...the last time I ever shot up was in the bathroom...hooking myself up with an IV to the only vein I could find in my chest and slamming the shit out of a dilaudid...oh good times :P

Hi BloodT,
I have had cotten fever after I used a peice of towel lent cuz didnt have any cotton so it rolled and worked, I was in a hotel this was many years ago, anyway I thought I was going die, it is an aweful feeling, I had a headache for hours and I felt real hot, not to scare you but try flushing out your system and drink water water water. Then just try taking one of your pills normal, id break the pill then just swallow it . Keep an eye on your temp ! I never heard of dying from cotton fever, and have Iv'ed alot of stuff years ago an was around others who had the fever too. So try these things. I wouldnt even want dillies around to temping to shoot. In the day all we did was put them right in syring, warm water shake um up. Perfect. Im not telling you to do that cuz im not sure they make them without I'v proofing them like they do with everything now.
Please take care. Find out if they have any anti iv junk in them. If not shake um up.

What happen to the days of shaking them dillies in some warm water in the syringe right to the main vein? Im so afflicted, I know, those were the days, now everything is freakN Iv proof.....gezzzzzzzz 8(

Sorry did not realize where you were....see what drugs have done to me over the years..8o heeeeeheeeeee

Hahaha, nice, man. I can only imagine the desperate words that came out of your mouth & unto the nurses ears to get them not to crush up the pill. rofl. Ahh, man. That's cool.
I've never had the chance to shoot a dilly, however, if given the opportunity, I'd do it in a heartbeat. The most I was prescribed by a doctor was like 5-10mg perc, and 1 refill. Meh.
