Police officers in Lansing, Michigan are in hot water after an investigative report by local ABC News affiliate WXYZ.

According to the report's source, officers with the OMNI Drug Task Force executed a search warrant on the home of Rudy Simpson in June 2008, and found a small bag of marijuana and half a pain pill that he'd been prescribed.

While talking about what they should do, officers began to eye the expensive recording equipment around Simpson's home, ultimately deciding that they could very well take everything if they wanted thanks to the drugs they'd found.

What they didn't realize is that when they raided the home, Simpson and friends were in the middle of a recording session, and the microphones were live.

"Basically what I heard them talking about is what equipment, what materialistic stuff could they take out of my house," he told the ABC affiliate. "It seems like...that they were just trying to figure out what they could come out of here with."

After the incident, Simpson said prosecutors played hardball and even threatened to prosecute him for the medicine he'd been legally prescribed. He forfeited some property and spent time in a half-way home, according to the report.

Simpson also claimed officers were eating his food, and that they stole a gold ring.

One of my teachers used to be a homicide detective in chicago. He told us that New York had the most corrupt department in the U.S.

Come on guys, my home can't really be that much worse than everywhere else! At least, in NYC anyway, we actually do have legitimate crime to keep the officers busy for a while! They do step over the line though, I've had a friend get the shit kicked out of him by the NYPD, as well as many others who were harassed for no reason. I often think, wow, good thing there are 20 cop cars here to bust someone with weed, guess that's much more punishable than the murder going on a couple blocks away :/ And hell, if you rape a 2 year old baby, you get to roam the streets a few blocks from an elementary school, all free! (Buffalo area, not kidding, felt physically sick when that 'sex offender' info got delivered to my house) But oh no, a drug charge, you may never see the light of day again.

Sorry for potential thread derailment, but a small baggy of weed and half a pain pill? Inside his own home? I really can't even understand how this is worth the time, effort, resources, or money of any law enforcement department.

Is there really legal reasoning for seizing someone's property over such a small ammount of drugs? I know when they raid real dealers houses and find say a few kilos and stashes of weapons that they do seize property in those instances, but for them to justify doing this over a small bag of decriminialized flowers and half a pain pill that he was legally allowed to posess it seems over the top.

That's awesome for that guy though, I see a civil suit against the city and if he's smart he will make a few recordings of that tape and send it right in to the FBI and have them investigate. The FBI hate local corruption, in the town I used to live in there's a very well documented case of corruption that the FBI and Attorney General caused the indictments of several cops, county workers and even a few judges.

(For further reading on that just Google 'Luzerne County PA Corruption Scandal')

^ yeah id have sent those recordings to every news outlet in my city, state, and country. id be making sure those cops never saw the glimmer of a badge again.

if he had the recordings why didn't he show them to abc?

Watch that video you can hear em talking. God damn these cops was ruthless they just talkin about it like it's nothin "so...we takin the drums or not" and I like how it says they found a weed stem in the trash and that was part of their PC to search. That's why I don't be lettin people throw away empty stamp bags at my crib flush them mufuckers down the toilet or take em with your ass. They used brick wrappers from my boys trash as PC to raid his house, and that's just regular ass porno magazine with a little tape on it.

fucking pigs. I hope all their homes are foreclosed on, banks and IRS are the only entities with enough power to give them a taste of their own medicine
