I just saw a law and order episode from the 90's. The detectives found a big bad of white powder. Rey Curtis takes his finger, dips it into the powder and tastes it and says "cocaine".

I am sure that does not happen anymore.

They know. They just make up shit to make it seem like their job is more dangerous than it really is.

Cops have always been crooked when it comes to drugs. Here if they catch you growing pot they'll yank up your plants with at much dirt as possible. Weight the entire thing then charge you with the total weight like you were some kingpin with hundreds of pounds of dope. Seen so many body came videos where they're freaked out about any white powder now and claim a small package of fent. could kill everyone in the county.

In reality most of the time they're the ones bringing the stuff in or protecting the local big dealers.

That was always a TV thing. The only cops that ever sampled cocaine were snorting it like everyone else.
 
^That tracks with dodgy cops. Very rarely does a non corrupt cop get targeted.

It isn't just crooked cops. A lot of cops are frankly stupid. The training they get is bad and they think they know better than everyone else. The old too dumb to know they're dumb problem. Most people that go into the profession are like that now. I've heard they actually screen them in such a way these days to filter out anyone that can think for themselves. They want order followers.

A lot of them think a tiny bit of the power getting on them can kill them because that's how they've been trained. Most cops are either totally naive about drugs or they're street wise but play stupid to blend in with the others.

I once had a cop threaten to arrest me because I gave someone that hit a deer a ride home. The guy came straight back for his (destroyed) car. I stupidly walked out to inform the cop that the driver was coming back and no one was hurt. He wanted to arrest me for helping someone "flee the scene of an accident". He said I wasn't qualified to know if the driver was drunk or high. I asked him what made him qualified. He said he'd taken a 2 hour course. I informed him that I'd worked in a bar dealing with the local drunks for years so I'm probably more qualified. We got into a bit of an argument on the side of the road until the driver of the car showed back up with a roll back. I went back inside my house. I was expecting the cop to come knocking and threatening me some more but I guess he decided not to bother. He seemed pretty dumb and full of himself. The quality of our local state troopers seems to be declining fast as the older guys are retiring. 20 years ago someone like that wouldn't have ever made the force and the best he would have gotten up to was sheriff's department or small town local cop.

20 years ago a state trooper would have thanked me for helping someone in need, cleaning all the debris out of the highway, putting down the deer, dragging the deer out of the highway, pushing the car out of the road and on to the shoulder and making sure a man's infant daughter didn't freeze to death sitting in a disabled car in 10F degree weather. He would have been thankful I did all that dirty work a half hour before he showed up. Now they threaten to arrest you because there was a slim chance that someone who did nothing wrong other than hitting a deer might have had some alcohol on his breath.

^Yea when they raided our old place they thought my gravity bong was a crackpipe -- and that was the drug taskforce.....

They are a mixed bag -- if you are too stupid to get out of your own way *Shrugs* darwinism woulda got em anyways

Shortly after seizing fentanyl and administering Narcan to a DUI suspect experiencing a possible overdose, CHP Officer Miguel Cano started to feel unwell, swerved his patrol car into a tree and was killed. His sudden death left many questions unanswered.

It's not unusual. For whatever reason people hit deer right in front of my house all of the time. So I've gotten used to helping them out. I'm always thankful it's just a deer because people have high speed accidents right in front of my house all of the time. There is an intersection right by my house. A small back road that crosses a major highway where people go 70+mph. It's on the top of a hill so people have a hard time judging the speed of oncoming traffic. People hit a deer in front of my house every few months and we have a major accident by my house at least twice a year. Usually in the middle of the night or around rush hour. I can always hear them from inside my house.

I've pulled people out of wrecked cars and put out car fires many times. Thankfully, I haven't walked up on anyone that's died yet thanks to the fact that modern cars are designed better than old cars and people wear seat belts. My Dad said when he was a child growing up here they'd see people ejected from wrecked cars all of the time. People covered in blood. People died often.

I've been trying to get the county to take the stop sign out and put in stop lights. It would cut down on the accidents if there was a light instead of a sign. I'm tired of having to clean up after the wrecks and I'm tired of seeing people get hurt.

That kid that hit the deer destroyed his mother's SUV that night. He was going to try to drive away because he was supposed to pick her up from work. He didn't know anything about cars. His radiator was gone and with the engine running it was pouring water all over the road. If I wouldn't have walked up when I did he would have ruined the engine. He was freaking out because he's just hit another deer a few weeks prior and they'd just had the car fixed. I told him it wasn't that bad it was a $200-$400 fix. All he needed was a new radiator and bumper+grill. But if he tried to drive away he would have ruined the engine.

He had his girlfriend and they had an infant with them. It was very cold and windy that night. So I offered to give them a lift home where he had another car. I would have taken them to pick up his mother but he didn't want me to go further out of the way. I could tell he wasn't drunk and he didn't reek of pot. His pupils weren't dilated or pinned. He was just a young kid freaking out because he'd ruined his mother's car.

Usually the troopers and local cops are thankful we help out. But for whatever reason that one wanted to be an asshole.

Whenever I hear a wreck I always go into help mode. I've ran the 100 yards out to the road to help people many times over the years. I always stop for disabled motorists when I'm out and about. I know one day I'll need help and hopefully someone will stop for me. When I'm on the road I always have tools in my car/truck to take care of the usual problems. I've changed tires for many people. Soldered wires to get their engine going again. Put belts back on. Put out fires. Given people lifts to their home. Called roll backs for them. All the stuff you're supposed to do.

It amazes me how many people are driving around with no idea how their cars work and no tools to do general fixes like changing a tire. Usually I don't have to put a spare tire on for them. I keep plugs and have a small air compressor that can run off an inverter. If your tire isn't totally shredded I can usually plug it and it's good as new. I learned a long time ago to keep that stuff in the truck. Whenever I buy a new set of tires I always end up running over a nail or screw within a week. Every time. It's like the universe wants to punish me.

I've noticed a really big shift in how cops are over the past 20-30 years. The ones here used to be pretty helpful and civil. Now it's getting more common for them to be dicks that bark orders and cause drama for no reason. It's usually the younger ones that are like that. The women are really bad for whatever reason. I don't understand why. The smaller the cop is the more likely they are to be that way in my experience.

Seeing the state troopers going that way has been disheartening. The state troopers used to be the cream of the crop. They did their job well and they were helpful, civil, and smart. If I was going to interact with the police I would take a state trooper every time. They didn't bullshit and play games. They were straight up about what they were going to do and they didn't lie to you. They weren't like the local cops. They had much better training and they'd go out of their way to help someone. This new batch only seems interested in writing tickets and couldn't care less about helping out. Their level of intelligence seems to be much lower than the older guys. It used to be really hard to become a state trooper here but now it seems like they'll take anyone that applies. I've heard they're having trouble finding people to fill open positions. So they're willing to take anyone that applies now I guess. It seems like good people don't want to be cops anymore so you end up with a force comprised of bullies and idiots.

I'm ranting and I'm sorry about that. I'm just sad to see what the police have become now. They weren't like this in my community when I was younger. Even the crooked cops here were helpful and didn't go around fucking with people. They knew their job was the keep the peace instead of coming up with any reason to throw someone in jail. Our local jail has really declined as well. People are dying in it all of the time now. Mostly from ODs.

Echo'd strongly. State police are still the "Lesser evil" as malevolent would say -- clearly a concept beyond me... along with cognitive dissonance. (Thats my ramble)
