Cooking K for IM injection

I checked the IM'ing link in the B&D thread and didn't find the info I was looking for.

I was wondering what the proper technique/procedure is for preparing Ketamine HCL for an IM injection.

I was under the impression that cooking ketamine referred to the practice of turning pharmaceutical ketamine vials into the powder via evaporating the solvent. If you have pure ketamine HCL, just mix it with water, preferably bacteriostatic/saline.

Step by step what I have done in the past is to put a desired amount of powder in a cup, boil some tap water (risky, if you use bacteriostatic you don't have to boil anything) and draw 1,1ml of it in a needless syringe. Then I would drop the liquid from the syringe into the cup with the powder and stir it until there's no visible particles, then stir it a bit more. It dissolved very nicely especially since my water was heated a bit. Now I draw this solution through a filter into the syringe and voila, ready to inject.

Make sure it's 100% ketamine before you IM though. Really wouldn't recommend IM'ing anything but sterile vials.

If you are getting pharmaceutical grade ketamine, it should be good to go. Read the vial, it ought to be ketamine hcl usp for injection.

If the k is already cooked down to crystals, you will want to dissolve in water - it is very soluble, so usually a long tip 1mlthe insulin syringe will do.

Because of the chance that a cut will find its way into already cooked k, and that at this point it is probably not sterile, I would highly recommend a micron filter to remove any insoluble cuts and bacteria. Check out the links in my signature for lots of info on micron filters. There is also a guide to IM injection down there. I think. If not it is in the Other Drugs threads of note.

I've got keta lab tested at 80%, is this good enough to inject it?

It will be fine depending on the cut. Lactose or something soluble would be the worst case. Best case is it is insoluble and will be filtered out with a micron.
oddly enough, your body can more easily cope with impurities in IV shots than IM shots. Any injection which puts sugar or other insoluble cuts into an im injection will most certainly result in an abscess.

You will want to go with the sterile whatman. . 2 micron filter.

They are kinda exppensive, but worth it. You don't really want to reuse them, either, so I would suggest getting a sterile vial and a bottle of bacteriostatic water so you can re-constitute all of it at once. Never store a solution of regular water.
the vial and water can be found many places... amazon.com is a good start.

Just so everyone knows, we DO allow links for hr suplies such as clean needles, micron filters, scales, etc...
