Hello all, and yes I'll introduce myself properly when I can write my short autobiography. But my question (and I hope it's in the right forum) is this:

I like to get powdered (or better, chunky) C and cook it myself. Works fine with ammonia or bicarb but I was wondering if it is possible to cook with Borax (such as 20-Mule Team).

Yes I used the FSE, but I don't want to get high on Borax (the box even says Not For Drug Use). Borax makes a basic solution, right? I just don't want to waste a bunch of good borax if it won't turn my rails into rocks. That stuff's expensive.

Has anyone tried cooking rocks with borax, and has it worked?

You can seriously save yourself a LOT of time and trouble using the baking soda method. The problem with "crack" you buy on the street is that most crack dealers do NOT know how to cook it correctly or do so just so it weighs more, which is aggravating because then you have to recook it.

The correct proportion is 4:1 coke/baking soda. You will get out almost all of the impurities and your product will be butter.

I've shared this method with a few crack dealers and all of the sudden other dealers couldn't understand why they had lost business all of the sudden.

This is a lot easier to do for personal amounts, however, as you have to keep scraping the freebase oil off the top of the liquid with a nickle and pushing it against the rim.

And you will get at least a 90% return if done correctly.

I prefer ammonia. Just make sure you let it dry.

Don't use Borox FFS

OK, after reading the Wikipedia entry more carefully, I noticed that it says that although borax is not acutely toxic, that in severe poisonings "a beefy red skin rash affecting palms, soles, buttocks and scrotum has been described."

That pretty much rules out my testing borax for its basifying properties. My scrotum is beefy enough, thank you very much.

I remember screwing up early on with soda, but now I think I prefer it to ammonia, mainly because of the smell. I tend to get kinda impatient and don't always wait for it to dry. Or even harden sometimes, just letting it drip from the stir-stick into the bowl and firing it up.

Ammonia is pretty fool-proof though.
