I've always loved Philip K Dick and Robert Heinlein, etc.

Recently a friend introduced me to Alastair Reynolds and I realized I've been reading sci-fi from 20+ years ago and nothing else.

Reynolds is amazing.

Anyone got any recommendations of good modern sci-fi novels/ authors?

:)

william gibson has a new book out, he's on some parallel universe tip lately. i recently read a book called SPIN, from robert charles wilson, pretty new, supposedly a trilogy, another parallel universe type of story, well more like a "what if" story where aliens encase the earth in a membrane and block out the stars... i'm really looking forward to reading bruce sterling's 'holy fire' and neal stephenson's 'the diamond age', heard great things about them, both hugo award winners. i guess if you want to know what's good in contemporary sci-fi a good place to start would be the recent winners of the hugo and nebula awards.
