Just a theory but I think that the intensity of the reaction may be closely tied to the closeness of the person's emotional state and interest in you. So unless you're dating your professor on the side I don't think that will work. ;)
 
I have a lot of experience with this phenomenon. Its definately real, and can get quite epic when you are tripping. One time me and my buddy were dosed up nicely and i went to a girls house, she started feeling "shaky" like she was on acid (like how your hands wobble a little bit) and expressed the contact high. A few other times. Once my buddy came over to smoke me out while i was dosed up nicely again. After smoking me out HE started acting like HE was the one tripping, zoning out and staring at shit, even admitting it(and this guy smokes bud, trips etc). We werent even smoking a sativa strain it was a heavy indica.

I notice this shit happens the most on LSD for me. Its all about the vibes and energy you are putting out. Humans are a socially minded species, we feed off eachother's moods. And when someone is in an epic, mystical mood like one becomes on LSD or silly cybin, that can be picked up strongly by someone who is sensitive to emotions.
 
I've hung out with sober friends of friends while I was on acid who really seemed to start tripping, eventually even yelling at me "what the fuck is going on!?"

If you were really able to control contact highs it'd be a great way of slowly introducing someone into the trippy effects of substances before they're brave enough to give it a go themselves. :)
 
Thats an interesting theory on mirror nuerons being the cause of contact highs. Just a couple weeks ago, I had taken five hits of some bomb LSD and was laying on my bed with the blanket over my face getting into the visuals and my bud started getting tripped out. For the rest of the day he was clearly in a different place.

maybe the world is only one mind, divided into individuals.

perhaps there are telepathic connections that science deems impossible or fails to explain

on an interesting side note, ive found heightened mental connections when eating only the foods that others have eaten during the day.

could be placebo affect. although there are reports of placebo groups not experiencing the effects of the RX group, there are cases where placebo groups health improved alongside the group that was actually taking the RX.

soooo, my friend said that this past weekend her friend was frying on 4 tabs, and my friend who was sober layed her face againts the girl on 4 tabs face for a little while and then she started frying too. is that possible!?
 
Human empathy is pretty powerful and maybe they shared some fundamental feelings of the LSD experience. But no drugs were transferred. The person didn't "trip".
 
How exactly do you believe this would work?

It makes no sense. You're saying that LSD was transferred transdermally through skin contact?
Then everyone I've danced with while under its influence was also dosed....and so on and so forth.
 
All of these replies assume human mental states exist in a perfect island. I don't know of any understood explanation for the experience, but the scientific state of mind isn't to disregard an experience outside of the current model, it's to use it as a basis for more questioning. How do non-drug induced communal mystic experiences occur? Or the energy of a concert? How about shulgin's documentation of contact highs?

Just playing a bit of devil's advocate.
 
"contact highs" are a well known phenomenon, however you can't absorb LSD through someone else's skin, sweat, etc.

There is a contact high account in PiHKAL in the 2c-i entry
 
mdma = contact high at it's best, it has the strongest contact high than anything else i have experienced, it's magic, no scientist can explain it but it DEFIANTLY happens, if i take md even the CAT comes to sit on my lap and share the good vibes, it's all about auras, we know for a fact we have a field of electricity around our body that is affected by it's surroundings. but as yet it remains an unproven area in science. well fuck science, seeing is believing and i have seen. that's just part of the magic in life. enjoy it while you can is my philosophy, life is too short, peace <3
