Contact High

Agreed, 2C-E is very intense in this respect, as is DOC.

Once I went to church the morning after I had a +4 experience on AMT and 4-AcO-DMT, still on a huge afterglow/plateau. I was in the choir at this church, and everyone else in the choir was about as old as my grandparents... they tend to move slowly. Well, this day, instead of walking calmly up and saying hello, one of the men who sat behind me came creeping up the hall like he was trying to hide, and then jumped out and started poking me in the arm repeatedly, going "Hey... hey..." with a big grin on his face. This was extremely uncharacteristic.

All throughout the choir practice and church service everyone was all flustered and disorganized. So many random things went wrong due to the pastor forgetting what he was talking about in mid-sentence and the like. It was quite amusing. Later everyone I talked to about it wondered what was going on that day... it seemed weird to them.

I'm having kind of a hard time expressing that story right now... but it was the most intense example of a contact high I have experienced... an entire church full of people. I mean I look back on that with a critical eye, but I really can't explain it. Everyone there felt the craziness that day.

Ha. Everythings in your head brother.
Haha I was just about to post that exact line. 8o

All this is quite fascinating; keep the stories/opinions coming. (Personally never had anything quite like this happen).

I don't believe in contact highs. It's all in your head.

nah-humans when in a large group like a football match or a concert are very close their brain waves will synchronise and the group becomes a mob. this is the danger with large groups. testosterone levels/neurotransmitters all come together a bit like when women synch their period -if you live with a lot of girls this will become apparent (to your horror for a couple of days).

this is how behaviour of large groups becomes organised.

contact highs are similar as are instances of dancing diseases

^^ Agreed... I am quite sure the explanation for contact highs is physiological. Good points about mob mentality... I'm sure it's the same force at work. It is amazing to see it in action though.

Absolutely - we all affect one another without direct communication - vibes, man %) ;)

We 'make' one another from one another.

There's absolutely no way I could take a psychedelic without my wife knowing <3

Ever read about mirror neurons? That could provide a basis for a contact high.
Something along these lines. For those that don't know, a mirror neuron is a neuron situated in a group of other mirror neurons that activates either when a person sees an action (such as grasping a cup) or does an action (grasping a cup). The idea is that the group of mirror neurons do not differentiate between YOUR action and MY action...they respond regardless of whose ego is 'in charge'. Add two components into the mix: 1) higher-order mirror neurons that respond to self- and other-attributed psychological states (so if you appear happy to me then the same set of neurons will activate as will when I am happy) and a little depersonalization (where a sense of ego boundary is lost, this is actually more common than not in social settings) and you have a recipe for the other people 'feeling' what (they theorize in their own minds) you are feeling.

If they get it right, then everybody is on 'the same wavelength'. This requires a complex theory of mind (a theory that complex minds hold about the existence of other minds based on observable behavior in the other organism).

Now if a person modeled your own state of consciousness within her own state of consciousness, and by doing so this made her happy, then that could explain the eye fluttering (because her happiness caused the same thing that the drug in you was releasing, ie serotonin release, which provides the basis for nystagmus).

I would sometimes get this from my husband. He's a big fan of LSD and I'm generally not, but I'd notice a tendency for me to have effects similar to a low dose of it while around him while he's on it. I suspect it's just a case of his behavior triggering deja-vu and memories I have.

There are other explanations, some of which are less comfortable to think about than others.

Very interesting, I had to look that one up. I don't get how mirror neurons could account for visuals had during a contact high, when the other people don't know someone is tripping... unless perhaps they had suspicions you were?

Could be subconscious cues, similar to subliminal advertising.

The one I'm really curious about is does this effect happen in people who have never had a similar experience and so have no direct memories to draw on?

But subliminal advertising doesn't work. ;)

I don't know what you mean by subconscious cues instigating visuals, can you expand?

Apparently, in the OP he stated his girlfriend had never used drugs before.

yup, she's never touched anything except for caffiene and low-dose alcohol. no previous experiences to draw on. and the same thing goes for the other girl who was getting nystagmus.

Wow... some truly fascinating stories here. I haven't yet witnessed/experienced this phenomenon to the degree that some of you have, although I hope to someday.

A couple of times, when I've been stoned around to my (largely anti-drug) mom without her knowing, she's gotten a serious case of the giggles, to a point that you'd only expect from a person on drugs.

I mostly trip alone, so regarding psychedelics, I'm not really sure how I would affect other people. Although my dog definitely picks up on it.

Also, when I'm stoned, my dog can seemingly sense it the instant I walk into the same room that she's in - she turns around and gives me a really suspicious look.

hehe not to sidetrack the conversation but on my last acid trip at about five in the morning I was freaking out very badly and finally could do nothing but ask my dog for comfort. I called her into my room and I started ranting at her about my situation - she was my last and final hope, the only living creature who could understand...

I could see that first she picked up on my alert mental state, becoming alert herself... then she gave me a look and realized "oh... he's just trippin' out. k, peace." and left the room. :P

Well the thing is you can be aware of things like body language and expressions and reactions on a low level. Things like gaydar work like that. It's a mental comparison of the actions of others used to construct a simulation of their mental state, and one of the main components of Asperger's syndrome is an inability to do that effectively. If you have similar experiences you may recognize cues in another person that alert you to them being in a state that you may be familiar with. Even if you're not consciously trying to figure them out, it may trigger deja-vu of your own experiences and hence the unexpected recall may be interpreted as this effect. I wouldn't be surprised if people develop a "drugdar" sense where they can predict who's on or likes what (especially if it's their DOC as well) with better than random accuracy.

But for someone without direct experience those memories would not be there to draw on so I'm not sure how they could construct the proper mental state without the memories. So obviously something else must be going on in that case.

I have experience crazy contact highs.. I am really sensitive to energy and if people are tripping around me, I will float on those vibes too. I have actually rushed, with eye wiggles and all just from hanging out with people on E.

I know I affect others in the same way. I'm an energy focal point so whatever is being experienced is magnified in my presence. I'm getting far better at both shielding myself, and manipulating the energy into positive stuff, but it's a learning process.

I remember sitting outside under the stars with my grandma when I was 16. We were watching flowers and leaves burn in their Mexican fireplace. Fire was shooting out of the top and we were discussing philosophy. I was tripping on mushrooms, and Grandma came along for the ride- She became far more introspective than normal, and kept commenting on the beauty and vividness of the sky. She was seeing lights like the aurora borealis... Which wasn't happening that night at all, lol .

I have two examples in my life. One, was on DXM, and I was speaking openly and honestly to my brother, who replid exactly in kind, which is out of character for him. He also felt happy and light-hearted.

Second, me and afriend were rolling hard and smoking weed with a hot girl. She began getting as giggly and... "PLURry?" like we were. In fact, I even told her she got a contact high.

I went to visit a girl who I had just met awhile go. We were supposed to go to a party so I guessed it shouldn't be a problem to be tripping . It all started normal but after a joint she went wierd and started shouting "stop it" to me. I hadn't got no idea what she meant. She didn't seem angry or anything but she couldn't speak anymore. I tried to leave but she didn't let me. Then at some point I found out that she had called an ambulance for me. Luckily I managed to sneak past them. Funny, I guess she really got fucked up from me.

The mirror neurons aren't supposed to work the same way with people with autism or asperger's. The reaction gets twisted on the way or then there is no reaction. Strange stuff.

I'm going to dose off my tits some time right before a day of classes, just to see if any of my professors get thrown off their lesson-plans and start rapping about some cosmic shit. :D
