Thats what this thread is about, advice on what and why to put into my muesli. I have a shockingly bad appetite, it is very on and off- the only foods I can consistenly eat and do are nuts, dried fruit, bannanas, fruit juices, mixed grain crackers, protein drinks and yoghurt. I find eating a real bore, plus I don't eat meat....overall, I feel very healthy as, while I don't eat much, its all healthy and "relatively" balanced but I'd like to simploify it into a muesli.

So- any good recipes? I have no allergies, and enjoy intersting fruits/nuts/grains and am very keen to get the most I can from these things. So any advice? Also, if you can indicate why I should be ingesting said item, I'd be utterly thrilled. My idea is to find the ultimate breakfast-meal which can be consumed regualry and thus I havw to no longer bore and stress myself out trying to eat when I can't. Something that will give a good blend of fast and slowburning carbs, goodly amounts of protein and vitamins. The grain content will take care of the minerals by and large....

So yeah. <3

try mixing some of that stuff into yogurt! one thing i tried doing recently was pouring unsweetened blueberry jam into plain yogurt & adding sliced up dried figs. worked great! :] i'm sure some nuts & cereal wouldn't hurt. i've noticed blueberries work great with almonds.

hmmm, maybe i should try that tonight!

i'm sure all of the food thoughts i've been having lately are connection to my smoking pot recently... hehe!

rolled oats
quinoa flakes
hempseed
chopped nuts
dried fruit of your choice (mix and match)

Mix up a bunch of it in a bag and you've got a quick muesli mix. The night before eating it, take the dry mix and add some yogurt, stir and let it sit overnight. Then just add a bit of fresh fruit in the morning for a first-rate breakfast!

I'll look around for an actual recipe (with amounts of each ingredient) after work.

swilow, where do you live? It would be cool if you had some seasonal markets to get ideas from.

I usually have fruit or something fried rice for breakfast. But when I go on hikes or something I make muesli out of stuff like pounded young brown rice, raw cocoa, raw sugar, some nuts (like Indian almond), dried mangoes, dried papaya, etc.

I recently discovered an herb in a grassland (it's an old obscure medicinal) that tastes like mango and I've dried it up and ground it and sprinkled it in.

I don't know if it still sounds like muesli to you but it's a bunch of dry stuff I guess :)

well theres pretty much only 3 things you can put in a muesli nuts, fruits, grain.

nuts for protein and fats
fruits for fiber and vitamins
grains for carbs and minerals

oats are slow digesting as well as bananas
fruits are gonna give you a pretty immediate boost of energy from the sugars

Scoop of whey protein, flax oil, greek vanilla yogurt, and soy milk....my breakfast drink. If using a blender, add fruit (frozen or fresh).
I eat almonds, yogurt (greek has higher protein), mixed berries, and ground flax at lunch. Sometimes I will throw in a handful of granola.

I like to get pre-made museli and add things to it (more a laziness gactor than anything else) i'm bad, and eat that fantastic pura toasted museli stuff... which i'm sure is probably really full of sugar and fat, but it's better than a lot of cereal you get these days, and oats are like my best friend. Anyway, i like to add cinnamon and i also soak some almonds on warm water for a few minutes (this gets rid of that nasty tannin taste and leaves you with sweet delicious almonds!) and then i chop them up into little bits and add them to the mix. i mush up a banana instead of milk because i'm sensitive to milk - (i think it's the casien in it, because I tried yogurt instead and felt even more sick... but if you like yogurt, try the dairy farmers creamy vanilla... it's amazing!) other things you might try adding are pepitas, pine nuts, extra sunflower seeds, dark chocolate shavings, toasted coconut... i could go on :) but definitely give the cinnamon a try... it really adds something special, and cinnamon is very good for you too!

Smoke a J b4 a big meal, might improve your apetite.

Actually I've found quitting herb has greatly improved my appetite. Over time it seems you become to reliant on it to eat. Thats just me though.

Swillow - Do you smoke cigarettes? Are you underweight?

Take raw oats and coat them with honey then lightly toast them before soaking them in whole milk. Mmmm. Also, shredded coconut adds an interesting texture without too much flavor if you only use a little (I'm not a huge fan of coconut, but I do like the texture it gives it)

I havent had muesli in forever, but I went out and bought a bunch of stuff for it today so I could make some, this thread inspired me :)
