"Consistancy" of the bowl

I have some friends that when they pack a bowl, they break their herb up like for a joint before they stuff it in. And some of them just break a nugget off and just sick it in like that. What do you guys do, and why?

I break it up, but I don't really have a reason.
 
If Im smoking regular brick I definitely break it up pretty fine or it always smokes like shit, otoh with high grade I usually just break off a nug and throw it in unless it's really dense hard bud, then I break it up a little
 
it is a FACT that if your herbal is ground up, it will burn a LOT more evenly.
the finer the better.

(ground to a powder will make it burn amazingly smooth)

if you just break off a bit of nug and stick it in, it is a FACT it will not burn as evenly
and will end up smouldering out.



the more your herb is ground up, the more evenly it burns, and the easier it is to milk the entire bowl in one shot.

to ensure full even burning, i corner my bowls.
that is when you hold the lighter over a small corner of the bowl.
it gets going slower, but once that lil corner is cherried, i take a cocktail stick,
a scissor blade, or anything similar, and push the bud around inside the bowl, so it all gets burned evenly and pulls better.


trust me, i have YEARS of experience in this field.
try it and see.
 
i used to know a dealer who always just broke off like a .2 or .3 chunk of bud, he would just stick it in the bowl n then pull it

1st of this sucked cuz u had to hold the lighter to it forever just for it to take

then he would just rip the nug once or twice n then dump it out n load another, he wasted sooo much weed doin this, it would always be a little nug that was black/brown on the outside n if u broke it open it was almost perfectly green on the inside, it was such a waste

but atleast he didnt throw it away, he said that he would give all his half burnt nugs to the mexicans at work n he said they fuckin loved it, free weed, prob tasted like shit but he only sold fire so im sure it did the job perfectly ( Not sure if it was him, or the mexicans, but somehow this weed ended up getting dubbed 'the black rhino' 8) )

but yea i only told that story to say that is a huge fuckin waste n pretty stupid, by a grinder, grind that shit up n get your money worth, personally i dont even like the way a bowl burns when someone breaks it up with thier fingers cuz it usually gets broken up half assed n doesnt burn properly

With schwag I break it pretty well to get all the stems and shit out. With high grade I barely break it and sometimes just throw a nug in, I never cherry bowls anyway, I cover my bowl after each hit because it makes the bowl last noticably longer, letting bowls burn while not hitting them is a waste. But yeah, finer broken weed burns better, I just don't like breaking up chronic too much to preserve the crystally goodness on the outside, and I don't have a grinder (I'll get one one of these days and then all my bud will be ground up when I smoke it).
 
I grind it in a grinder just like for a joint.....I think it burns evenly that way....
 
Well, with good bud, I really don't need to break it down that much, and I generally slice 'n' dice with a knife, or if there's a grinder, I use that.

Same thing goes for mids.
 
I break it into smaller nugs, but I don't grind it finely like I would for a joint. If its in chunks it burns slower which I like but if its one giant nug its harder to get it to burn well.
 
Breaking it up (with a grinder) not only gives a better hit and evens out the bowl, but it allows for a very descriptive smell of the herb prior to smoking.

I agree with the physics of this 100% and will sometimes do the opposite for the reasons you stated here. Sometimes I will just kind of flay the bud, peeling it open but not breaking it apart, and put it in just like that. I do this so, like another poster above me said, the bowl doesn't keep burning after I'm done pulling. Of course the proper technique is to pack snaps but sometimes I don't want to re-pack the bowl multiple times.
 
Grinding weed up makes it smoke MUCH better. Put a small nug, just big enough to cover the hole, into the bowl and then pack the ground weed on top. Having the small base nug makes sure you don't pull through before everything is burnt up.

Ground weed has more surface area. More surface area = better combustion = better hits
If you just throw a nug in without grinding it up it's not going to smoke well.

its really all personal preference really, example-
personally, i an take HUGE hits on a bong.
a full bowl, milked and snapped.

this bowl smoking method works for me because thats how i smoke (and i only really smoke bongs).
it also works well for small amounts as it doesnt charr the budd (when you want to get ALL out of your last wee bit)

So I've decided that for now one, I'm going to definitely grind it up fine before packing it.
 
instead of plugging and having herb fall into the chamber and get wasted/wet, just use a pipe screen.

even in glass bowls, metal pipe screens work amazing.
just resinate it enough so it stays in ;)
 
I'm with sega420 and shulsd33, those are th facts...:)=D.I am pretty metiulous[anal?]wit my buds, and bowls and getting nice hits. You also get the best taste by smoking finely ground herb, I've always been a pipe person, they are economical , and fun to play with...=D.
