Consensus on Alpha-Lipoic Acid and neurotoxicity

I think once it is out of schedule 1 here in the USA, there will be tons of studies. Only a matter of time. It will be important to researchers to figure out what causes damage and how to prevent it.

You’re right there will be studies but the evidence medicine that physicians rely on to a fault (mostly the typical double blind placebo controlled) hasn’t historically ever used nutraceuticals much and the medical field as a whole generally discounts them.

The other problem is you cant do true studies (with brain tissue examination) on humans so we are left to infer or correlate from animal responses.

There will likely be some research but if people never present clinical signs of neurotoxicity after medical use then it likely won’t be evaluated much. All of this is due to some major faults in our medical system and philosophy.

Another supplement I've heard conflicting reports on is 5-HTP (serotonin prodrug) for post-roll. From what I've read, this is mostly useless, since the serotonin neurotransmitters are going to be downregulated after a roll, and won't be capable of producing very much serotonin.

How much is produced is based on precursor conversion, not intracellular stores.

@fasterfb I rolled on Saturday night, April 11. Felt sick on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. By Thursday, I was much less nauseous feeling. By Saturday, I felt basically normal. Each day, electrolytes helped a lot with resolving the nauseous feeling.

Just figured I'd post back on this. I think the ALA may actually be worth something. I've done molly on each of the past 3 Sundays (I know that's excessive, and I'm not making a habit of it.) Each time, I have felt a bit depressed in the hours after the roll, but by the next day I have been feeling pretty normal. I've even tripped LSD the next day after one of the rolls, and it was a great trip as well.

I've also been taking NAC for 3 days after each roll, so perhaps that may have something to do with it as well? In any case, I'm surprised. I'm a pretty hardline skeptic when it comes to supplements, and the fact that there was only a single study related to ALA made me approach with doubt.

Hope this helps anyone! btw rolling again, ilysm!!!!

Glad to hear ALA and NAC is working for you! Another cheap, effective to add to your cocktail would be vitaminC.

I too have been rolling much more frequently than recommended; like every 2 weeks and sometimes 1 week.
I've become a big believer in supplements with MDMA. I also do in addition, ALCAR, green tea extract, milk thistle, B complex and B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, CoQ10. Also have been using that BPC 157 peptide.
Also, I'm in my 60's and have actually felt mentally better since starting with all of these supplements regularly.

The next time that I roll (in a week or 2), I will be pre-loading with piracetam to see what happens.

*Disclaimer - I don't recommend using MDMA as often as I have been. Do your own research and also make decisions based on the feedback that you're receiving from your body/mind/emotions.

That's a lot of supplements.... is there any reason you think you're not getting enough vitamins in your diet?

Only a couple of those are vitamins and getting enough in your diet doesn’t have anything at all to do with therapeutic doses used to combat excessive oxidative stress

I eat fairly well. Not a lot of junk food or sugar.
I am using all of those supplements mostly for neuro-protection since re-starting MDMA usage.
I've rolled 7 times since Feb 11, 2020.
I just recently started using MDMA again after over a decade since my last roll. I've just been using psychedelics after getting clean off of opiates/crack/IV cocaine in 2001.
