I think once it is out of schedule 1 here in the USA, there will be tons of studies. Only a matter of time. It will be important to researchers to figure out what causes damage and how to prevent it.
You’re right there will be studies but the evidence medicine that physicians rely on to a fault (mostly the typical double blind placebo controlled) hasn’t historically ever used nutraceuticals much and the medical field as a whole generally discounts them.
The other problem is you cant do true studies (with brain tissue examination) on humans so we are left to infer or correlate from animal responses.
There will likely be some research but if people never present clinical signs of neurotoxicity after medical use then it likely won’t be evaluated much. All of this is due to some major faults in our medical system and philosophy.
