Freshman Congressman Trey Radel (R-Fla.) backed a GOP bill that would make food stamp recipients have to pee in a cup every month to prove that they were worthy of, you know, eating. You may remember Radel as the Congressman busted last month in D.C. for cocaine possession. So yeah, his stance on this is a might hypocritical.

The House is expected to consider a bill this week that would cut food stamps by an estimated $4 billion annually and allow states to put broad new work requirements in place for recipients.

The legislation also would end government waivers that have allowed able-bodied adults who don’t have dependents to receive food stamps indefinitely.

The vote comes after the House defeated a wide-ranging farm bill in June because many conservatives believed the cuts to the nearly $80 billion-a-year food stamp program weren’t high enough. That bill would have made around $2 billion a year in cuts.

Food stamps have for decades been part of farm legislation. But House leaders separated the food and farm programs after the bill’s June defeat and passed a farm-only bill in July. The Republican leaders, led by Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia, then crafted the separate food stamp bill in an effort to appease conservatives who have been aggressively pushing for cuts to domestic food aid.

That’s right, actively assist in creating the largest recession this country has ever seen and then complain when people don’t have enough to eat. I’m sure it doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that 3/4 of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck or that the rich of managed to earn $5.6 trillion during this “recovery period” while the rest of us have taken a loss of around $670 billion. So if you need help feeding your family during these boon times you better be willing to sacrifice every ounce of human dignity you have left thanks to our representatives in congress.

You guys know he's not a hypocrite since he's not on gov'mt assistance right?

I think congressmen make over 6 figures of tax payers money. All to play with laws so they can make political sponsors, associates and friend shady deals.

But I guess when you make the written laws you can call things anything you want- salary, contribution, tax, payment, ... It's only the poor people that receive "benefits" and "welfare"

Yeah that was knee jerk of me to say it like that. He IS being payed by the gov'mt, though there's a difference between working (useless as congress may be) and collecting. I just love being arbitrarily contrary.

He is getting paid for “working” on his congressman “salary” but he is also manipulating laws for shareholders and contractors to get basically free tax money = “corporate welfare” who in return give him piles of the tax money for things like “political contributions”, contracts given to shell companies and other "political favors".
We are basically paying him to pillage tax money. Do we want to pay him and his buddies ? NO they have our corrupted system monopolized. They are taking our tax dollars at will and living high on the hog.
I guess you can't really call stolen pillaged money "welfare" thats what the lowly starving masses get.

Not that he is not a hypocrite, but he is at least employed.

Not that I feel people should starve... But I don't want to feed them if they're just sitting at home injecting snorting or eating drugs that take their mind off of things. But I don't think drug testing is right.... But what else can we do? Sure drugs don't always cause problems, but they often can. I can just see someone getting stoned instead of finding work. I did for years.

First step would be to quit giving people on food stamps so much money that they eat better than the working poor.. then pay the people who are working enough so that they aren't poor.. heard a walmart commercial today bragging of their amazing benefits but im going to check and see how much slant is actually in that cause Id be really surprised if the shit they were touching was available to anywhere close to all their employees .. please benefits are good but so is a livable wage and how about not just a livable wage how about a comfortable wage.

^I saw something about a store (Wal-Mart) asking for food donations for their own associates so that they can have Thanksgiving.

Perhaps he should be drug tested before each time he votes on a bill or takes any action in congress. Ya know, just to make sure he isn't under the "influence" of anything other than his constituents.

Food Stamps are $1.40 a meal now, it has been on the news because they are cutting them. Thats basically pasta, oatmeal and the cheapest stuff you could scrounge together. Basically in the survival realm.
I read somewhere that more then half of the employees at walmart get food stamps because $8 an hour is not a livable wage. A larger percentage of food stamp recipients are working full time.

A large percentage of these low paying jobs are from multi-billion dollar companies that rake in billions and billions every year, but they pay wages so low that their emplyees cannot even buy a life and have to beg for tax dollars to survive.

Most of the people running these media and political campaigns to cut food stamps are shareholder in these multi billion dollar companies that pay a wage so low the employees have to beg for food and collect food stamps.

As the rich few get more wealthy the poor get more poor and the middle class get closer and closer to poor.

Oh my God I hate those commercials.

As I've said a few times in CE&P, these huge retail industries that insist on paying Americans peanuts are shooting themselves in the foot because they create an environment in which everyone is so broke that they have to limit what they spend in these selfsame retail stores.

If stores like Costco can keep prices low and turn a handsome profit while paying their employees $15 an hour, why can't Walmart do the same? Because ideology.

What a scumbag.
He should be held accountable for his political stance on drug issues when being sentenced.

He's not being sentenced. He's going to rehab and got a LEAVE OF ABSENCE. He's keeping his job. Like to see any of us cop an 8-ball from an undercover and get that kind of treatment.
