I am taking a chance because I don't know where I should be doing this. First of all let me point out that I am very much a novice. In fact, untill two years ago I had never been anywhere near a computer, or any type of keypad for that matter. Anyhow, I bought a laptop and taught myself with books which were very limited. I am a bit confused using bluelight, I'm trying to understand the terminology. I understand what a thread is but whats the difference between a 'post' and a 'blog'. Also I have great differculty finding my way around, and usually I get there by pure acciident. This evening I tried for hours in vain to get back to where I was this morning. Find the posts/threads I was following to read others comments but because I wasn't sure which forum I was on, I wasted a lot of time.
Young people today are brought up with computers, at home, at school, even at play. But when I was at school, pocket calculators wasn't even invented, everything was done with pen and paper.
I wish that the staff or moderators, whatever they are called would realise that computers are for both young and old and take that into consideration and not presume that every one understands computer language or terminology. I want to learn but somebody must teach me. or at least point me in the right direction. Once I do find what I'm looking for on BL, i really enjoy reading other peoples oppinions and contributing myself.
If anyone has gone to the trouble of reading this, Thanks !

please use paragraphs when composing a post friend.

many readers, when confronted with a monolithic block of words; even if punctuation, grammar and spelling are not so inaccurate as to appear alien, will blow it off.

my suggestion to you is to read all the information available in the section for new members. Then keep on trying as you have nothing to loose and all to gain . a message board is not rocket science and a wrong click of your mouse will not be a death knell !

Hey, django47. Welcome to Bluelight!

As hobhead suggested, try separating your thoughts into paragraphs next time, as it makes it easier to read. :)
I understand what a thread is but whats the difference between a 'post' and a 'blog'.
A "post" is what is in a "thread." A "blog" is an online journal of sorts, where you're jotting down your thoughts for yourself or anyone else who wants to read--This differs from a post, as a post is typically carrying on a conversation within the thread.

Also I have great differculty finding my way around, and usually I get there by pure acciident. This evening I tried for hours in vain to get back to where I was this morning. Find the posts/threads I was following to read others comments but because I wasn't sure which forum I was on, I wasted a lot of time.
First off, the BL homepage is here. From that page, you can get to every forum. To find a post you were once on, you can either go to your profile page, which is located in the top right of every page. From there, click "Statistics." You can then view your past posts by clicking on "view more posts."

Or you can subscribe to a thread. You can do this in a couple different ways, the easiest being to go to your User CP, which is located in the upper left of each page. Once there, go to "Edit Options". It's about the sixth link down on the left. Once there, you'll see "Default Thread Subscription Mode" about a quarter of the way down. Those options are to receive notifications about threads you've posted in. You can either get e-mails or no e-mails, but once you're subscribed, the threads you have posted in will show up right when you click on User CP.

I don't feel like that's very well explained, but it's the best I can do right now. Hopefully someone else can explain further if needed. :-/

I think all the answers you are looking for are in Support, which is actually where I am going to move this. I suggest you look around and read through the threads there. Also, the greenlighters guide is going to be a big help to you. Its linked in the big green box at the top of your screen. (I also linked to it in another of your threads)

Thank you Bluelighters

Thanx to everyone who were kind enough to take the trouble of reading my post and then giving me really good advice. I think I got it more or less sussed now. Once again, Thank you all... PS. Have a merry xmas and a blindinly wicked new year.

In support and across Bluelight there is an effort to keep this in mind, but a lot of everyone's posts on discussion boards are often off the top of our heads and abbreviations and jargon end up getting used.

What browser do you use? The application to access web pages? In the browser called Firefox there is an add-on available called 'search with'. Using search with you can highlight a word in a post or on a web page, right click the selected portion and search references for that word or phrase. If you are interested in setting up such a method for quickly looking up terms unfamiliar to you I will help you with that by Private Message or here in the thread.

Also feel free to ask people what they mean by technical jargon or drug jargon. Especially in support, the drug discussion forums, and the focus forums of Bluelight we want to make sure information is accessible to everyone interested. It is likely that if you are not understanding, at least a few other people aren't either. Your asking for clarification will help folks increase the clarity of their posts.

I think many people in many different domains of knowledge can forget entirely that the some folks don't have the same vocabulary and background so its good we hear reminders like yours from time to time. So thank you django47 :)

Yeah , I responded to your first post after a resolution was already realized. Did it on on purpose for the folks with similar issues that haven't had it all sussed yet :)
