Bupe Confused about possible precipitated withdrawals...

OK so normally I can bounce between bupe (which I am scripted for 4mgs/per day) and heroin (about 3-5 bags per day) and the transition has never been an issue. Wait until withdrawal begins and slowly start the bupe in 1mg doses every 20 mins or so. However last night this seemed ineffective, I had begun withdrawals and believe I waited until agonist properties had left. Nevertheless first 1mg dose taken at 1am was fine dosed another 1mg at 1.30am still fine, 2am dosed 2mg and sudden chills and flushes followed soon after by the restlessness and the "oh shit, this won't be fun" sensation. It is now 6.34 and I have found myself passed out on the sofa. I feel ok now but not sure whether to continue with the bupe just yet, I have two theories:

1) I managed to take the bupe at exactly the right time (in other words the w/ds I felt were what I was about to feel anyway due to coming off the heroin and the timing seemed as if the w/ds were precipitated)

2) I had been using heroin contaminated with a longer acting opiate.

The reason this seems strange is the fact I managed to fall asleep so soon after feeling withdrawal, this is not something swim has ever been able to do, any thoughts would be great. I am hesitant about continuing with bupe until confidence has been re-established.

hmm 121 views and no reply, the question is whether or not id be fine to continue taking suboxone and is the risk of any more withdrawal now gone?

Sorry no one has replied :)

Maybe people just don't know how to answer your question. There is really no way for us to tell whether you'd be ok taking some more bupe right now. And you're right that it doesn't really make sense that you would get precipitated withdrawals if the 2 doses you took earlier didn't cause it. Are you sure that's what it even was? How much bupe do you normally take in a day and do you usually take it that close together? Could it have been too much for you or something? If you already took the 4mg you are prescribed why do you need to take more right now? Are you still feeling sick? Maybe just give it a break for a while and wait til tomorrow before taking more...

I originally had an extreme habit, 30+ bags a day IV, I decided life wasnt supposed to be lived in this way anymore and got a suboxone script. I was given 20mgs a day which took about 2 weeks to get used to. I have since slowly been dropping and am now supposed to only take 4mgs a day. Last week i decided i had worked hard for too long a needed a break and so stopped taking the suboxone and starting shooting up heroin again. My tolerance now greatly reduced I was only doing 5ish bags a day. I have always taken suboxone as described in the past and had no problems, I still feel slightly achy but nothing like i did last night. I normally take an extra 2-4mgs of bupe if I have just had a binge and then reduce myself accordingly, just with the mishap thats happened i am now wondering if its possible to go through precipitated withdrawals twice in the same induction?

I think it's probably not very likely to get precipitated withdrawals twice in the same induction, but I'm not entirely convinced that precip WDs is necessarily what you experienced, and if you are feeling ok right now I would just save your bupe for tomorrow.

^you're right about the transition between suboxone and full agonists becoming more difficult with time. I've experienced this myself. I used to switch back from heroin as soon as five hours after my last shot and be fine, and then one day that didn't work anymore and I was struck with a very violent and unpleasant surprise. However, I disagree that suboxone works best with people who have small habits. I mean, I guess there is some truth to the statement, if your drug of choice is particularly weak I can't imagine precipitated withdrawals even being possible (maybe some codeine users can put some input here, I'd be interested to know). However, even people addicted to fentanyl have successfully used buprenorphine for detox and withdrawal. Basically if 30/40mg of Methadone will take you out of withdrawl, suboxone should work. Only difference is you got to wait

well i've taken an extra 4mgs and am feeling a bit better each time, tearing has stopped, nose dried up, still getting the odd chills. it's interesting to hear that the transitioning gets harder the more you do it, but does make sense if i think about it, some great input there, thanks :)

I also am in the process of building a withdrawal survival kit, it includes a large amount of marijuana and hash for the pains and mental anguish. A lot of Benzos including Valium clonopins and Xanax. Immodium for a lot of the symptoms. Some anti psychotics including zyerprexa (or however you spell it) and seroquel. I think this preparation I've taken will make a huge difference in quitting and not

As mentioned switching back and forth from subs to full agonists with slowly make that transition unbearably painful. Been there and never want to go back. Also, to comment on the w/d survival kit. I have been on suboxone for a year and a half and got down to now between .5-1mg daily. About a month ago i thought of the genius idea to pick up some xanax to help ease the sub withdrawal. My intentions were pure. Well the addict in me took over and after a year and a half clean (on sub) ive been taking .5mg xanax every day for a month. trading addictions i guess :(
